Missing 'hdparm' package

Thu Mar 29, 2018 10:52 am

Hi,

I've updated my Raspbian Stretch (updated this morning to the very latest kernel) and I've noticed that the 'hdparm' package can no longer be installed - is there any reason why this package is no longer available as I find it a very useful program when dealing with usb drives?

Cheers

Output from my Pi :

sudo apt-get install hdparm
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package hdparm is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'hdparm' has no installation candidate

Problem solved - did another sudo apt-get update and lo-and-behold the 'hdparm' package is there now - really weird as I did the same this morning and it wasn't available...

Anyway thanks for your feedback...:) :D

That was going to be my next suggestion ..... Always do an "apt-get update" before trying to install anything to avoid such problems.

It's a bit weird since I already did a apt-update and a apt-get upgrade which updated the kernel and several other packages...

Well you live and learn :)

There was something in the recent raspberypi-sys-mods package that changed something in the sources.lists files. I don't know if that is related.

It is. Stretch has moved house to raspbian.raspberrypi.org from mirrordirector.raspbian.org.
