avahi-deamon causing lockups when network down

Mon Feb 26, 2018 5:45 pm

I'm new to this, but I'm having a problem with my raspbian completely locking up. To were I have to reboot. When I look in syslog, it shows as last item every time:

Code: Select all

Feb 26 08:56:31 raspberrypi dhcpcd[450]: wlan0: deleting address fe80::b1bd:fbf2:9789:9232
Feb 26 08:56:31 raspberrypi avahi-daemon[445]: Withdrawing address record for fe80::b1bd:fbf2:9789:9232 on wlan0.
Feb 26 08:56:31 raspberrypi avahi-daemon[445]: Leaving mDNS multicast group on interface wlan0.IPv6 with address fe80::b1bd:fbf2:9789:9232.
Feb 26 08:56:31 raspberrypi avahi-daemon[445]: Interface wlan0.IPv6 no longer relevant for mDNS.
Feb 26 08:56:31 raspberrypi dhcpcd[450]: wlan0: deleting default route via 192.168.1.1
Feb 26 08:56:31 raspberrypi dhcpcd[450]: wlan0: deleting route to 192.168.1.0/24
Feb 26 08:56:31 raspberrypi avahi-daemon[445]: Withdrawing address record for 192.168.1.137 on wlan0.
Feb 26 08:56:31 raspberrypi avahi-daemon[445]: Leaving mDNS multicast group on interface wlan0.IPv4 with address 192.168.1.137.
Feb 26 08:56:31 raspberrypi avahi-daemon[445]: Interface wlan0.IPv4 no longer relevant for mDNS.
Please help. I've searched and there is not much on it, just how to debug, but not if it locks up.

Thank you

It's not avahi-daemon that causes your problem.
What it does is add/remove mDNS records and link-local IP addresses dynamically when interfaces come up or down.

What happens here is that wlan0 goes down. The wifi connection breaks somehow and the link (the interface) goes down.
If the interface were a wifi dongle and someone removed it, you would get the same result.

Check your PSU is appropriate and connect a screen to the machine. There is a good chance it is not completely locked up and the traces in /var/log/syslog (before the ones you posted) could give an indication of the real cause.

There are reports of RaspberryPi's locking up running the latest WiFi firmware when reconnecting to a WiFi network.
More here

Hope this helps,
Dave.
