GPU Acceleration in chromium with xfce

Thu Feb 15, 2018 12:13 pm

Hello.
I use raspbian-stretch-lite image. I want to use XFCE and play videos in web browser. In XFCE I cannot make it with gpu acceleration. Instead of video there is slide show. But if I install and run RPD - everything seems good and acceleration appears.
Please tell me, how can it be possible, and is there any way to enable acceleration in XFCE ?

PS Sorry for my ugly English

The DE shouldn't make a difference. Do you have rpi-chromium-mods installed?

Yes, it installed. I also think DE shouldn't have matter, but it is. I login to XFCE, and have my slideshow. Reboot, login to RPD, and have normal video.

Well, I am stumped then. Have you tried launching is from the terminal and seeing if any output is different?

Chromium should play videos smoothly. I also use xfce in raspbian stretch lite image. I never encountered a single problem in chromium about video accleration.

Do you mean open it with omxplayer from the terminal ? No, I didn't, but will try soon

chromium-browser, not omxplayer. I was thinking there might be a difference in how it's launched or perhaps a warning in the output.

Just tried to run chromium from terminal, all the same. No warnings in command line. Also tried to play video with omxplayer, everything plays perfectly.
Maybe I need to install any packet ?

Just tried clean install without any other soft and settings. Only clean raspbian lite (updated), xfce, chromium and rpi-chromium-mods. All the same, video doesn't play smooth under xfce. Raspberry Pi 3 Model B.
Maybe it's a bug ?
