You need to clarify which distribution you are using. The Raspberry Pi does not work with straight Debian although Raspbian uses Debian as a basis.

The RPi 3 with Raspbian should automatically find the wireless interface that is built in at boot time but you will still need to configure wireless security if your network uses it...SSID and WPA2 passphrase...in a /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf file that looks like this:
ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=netdev
update_config=1
country=US

network={
ssid="Your SDID"
psk="Your Passphrase"
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
}
with "country code" adjusted to your country if not "US".

This can be accomplished in the current Raspbian distribution using raspi-config in "Network Options".
