today i am not getting crashes, but the videos pause without an ability to unpause them within a few minutes. this is so inconsistent for me.

of course i would like to figure out why i cannot turn on the kms driver without crashing chromium. maybe i will retry raspbian over the weekend from scratch again

Did you solve your problem of intermittent video freeze?

I'm seeing the same problem on a 3B+ playing local H.264 videos

I haven't attempted applying all the modifications in this thread yet so I'll give that a go tomorrow.

i reformatted yesterday and put raspbian back in. ran the script on this thread twice (because it has some bug and the chromium modifications don't get inserted in the file somehow). also i put 192 MB to the graphics card in the config file.

after doing that i am getting decent results in the smores website. no crashes so far and only a couple of video pauses. However i also tried youtube just for testing and it can't handle 1080p full screen, it skips around 80% of the frames.

note that i didn't try to use one of the experimental opengl drivers and chrome://gpu shows very little accelerated processes.

note that i also didn't run apt-get upgrade so chromium is still at version 62 and getting lots of warnings about flash being too old.

Hmm i think this is verry weird as it works great for me, i wonder what makes your setup not work as it should,
i could upload an .img for you to try out if you want.

Sorry have been working to much, ill fix it this weekend and put up an downloadable image so you can test it with out doing mods to your own.

One question: I was wondering if this could also work for the videos at www.be-at.tv somehow?
If I star tplaying the videos there, they are still laggy.

i really don't have the lag problem. the problem is that chrome leaks memory and it will crash with the "aw snap" message. It can be after 5 minutes, it can be after 4 hours, but it WILL crash.

also, there is no combination i have been able to find that lets me enable hardware acceleration without chromium instantly crashing when a video plays. so i have to use the default GL driver and i can't enable the option in chromium that says something like "ignore blacklist of devices", which is the one that will enable hardware acceleration (chrome:gpu shows all green after doing this)

With this config it works great for me, im not using KMS driver but rather OpenglES thats allready activated at install, but have had it run with KMS and that also works.

Regarding www.be-at.tv think it forces player in shockwave flash and im not using flash in my settup im affraid, but can try and install and try it out during weekend.

you have some changes to the config.txt worth checking. i will try them later tonight.

your chromium flags won't really do anything if you are not enabling the option to ignore the blacklist provider setting. your chrome://gpu should show that hardware acceleration is disabled and that's why using the opengl driver doesn't produce an instant crash.

also, it may be just be that you are using this for a few minutes a day and don't experience crashes. remember i am trying to actually use it 8-16 hours a day straight to earn money from watching ads.

You probebly are correct been changing and testing my settings so much so it might be that.

With this config it works great for me, im not using KMS driver but rather OpenglES thats allready activated at install, but have had it run with KMS and that also works.

Regarding www.be-at.tv think it forces player in shockwave flash and im not using flash in my settup im affraid, but can try and install and try it out during weekend.

ok i just found out that chromium is not using the 00-piws file. so basically it's using whatever it wants to use and you can change it by yourself using chrome://flags.

so it seems like the script posted won't really do anything because chromium will just ignore it.

it's more confusing since /etc/alternatives/x-www-browser mentions that you should place the flags over the customizations folder as you did.

Ive been running my raspberry pi youtube in chromium at 1080p fullscreen and autoplay videos without any problems since last evening, no errors no hickups.

You guys want me to upload my installation as an .img its raspbian-lite with pure lxde desktop?

Hello. I have tried all steps from the top message. Tried to update flags according message in the deep of thread too.
But stil it's not solve the issue with non smoth youtobe playback on fullscreen.

Raspberry Pi 3B, with latest raspbian.

The second issue is when I use --disable-gpu-compositing than my browser begin laging, and can be hanged.
So I enabled gpu compositing, it's solve laging during scrolling, but you tube videos working incredibly slow even in the window mod if I turn turned of h264ify. In case if h264ify is working youtube do not start playback and page is crashing.
I'm using GLES for now, and upscale GPU mamory to 256 (192 the same behavior).

try using the default GL driver and deleting --ignore-gpu-blacklis from your script, for me it causes an instant crash anyway.
