Install Stretch and set it up on Pi3 then move SD card to PiZero-W?

Tue Sep 12, 2017 5:26 am

I've a problem building pybluez[ble] where it crashes my PiZero-W as described in this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=32&t=192820
It builds fine on my RPi3

I'm using Raspbian-stretch 2017-09-07 image.

Can I expect the card setup on the Pi3 to "just work" if moved to the PiZero-W

I'd just try it but I've the "official" PiZero case and a camera module, I had enough trouble getting the camera installed correctly that taking it apart again to swap SD cards is very unappealing!

It will "just work", as long as /boot/kernel.img and /lib/modules/4.9.48+ exists.
The RPi2 & RPi3 use /boot/kernel7.img and /lib/modules/4.9.48-v7+

The rest of the stuff on the SDCard is version agnostic.

Note: your kernel version will differ.

Thanks, this worked great, so great that next time I need to setup another PiZero-W I'll do the SD card on the Pi3 (or Pi2 with WiPi dongle). I used the Pi2 with WiPi dongle and everything booted up fine, I then built the pybluez[ble] successfully and returned the card to the PiZero-W.

None of the python examples seemed to do anything with my Radius Dot beacons despite no errors when running, but that is a problem for another day, as my kludge of a shell script scanning with hcitool | hcidump and a node-red flow seems to be working well enough sending beacon presence states over MQTT that I can move on to the next phase of the project.
