Latest upgrade broke my Samba shares

Sun Apr 02, 2017 6:54 am

I'm running a Samba server on all my RPis to share files between all my computers (RPis, Ubuntu and Windows Desktop).
Yesterday I installed the latest upgrades via apt-get, which included new versions of all samba related stuff (client and server). Afterwards all my shares were "crippled":
On Linux systems (RPi and Ubuntu): The shares did appear but all directories inside the share were shown as empty.
On Windows: The first order directories could be opened, but no second level directories.

I reinstalled the following (older, last versions) packages from my apt-cache:
python-samba_2%3a4.2.14+dfsg-0+deb8u2_armhf.deb
samba_2%3a4.2.14+dfsg-0+deb8u2_armhf.deb
samba-common_2%3a4.2.14+dfsg-0+deb8u2_all.deb
samba-common-bin_2%3a4.2.14+dfsg-0+deb8u2_armhf.deb
samba-dsdb-modules_2%3a4.2.14+dfsg-0+deb8u2_armhf.deb
samba-libs_2%3a4.2.14+dfsg-0+deb8u2_armhf.deb
samba-vfs-modules_2%3a4.2.14+dfsg-0+deb8u2_armhf.deb
and everything is working again.

There must be something terribly wrong with the upgrade packages.

have a look in samba.conf if you have the line:

Code: Select all

follow symlinks = no
delete it and will make the shares work again.

Thanks. I'll test it tomorrow and report here if it works.

Removing "symlinks = no" fixed it.

My samba also recently stopped working with the latest update but I do not have the line symlinks = no. If i run sudo journalctl -r | grep samba it gives an error: Starting SMB/CIFS daemon: smbd/usr/sbin/smbd: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/samba/libads.so.0: ELF file version does not match current one. Does anyone know a fix? I've tried googleing and can't find anything to get it working again.
