Hi,
can you please post or upload your xbmc.log? Its located under /root/.xbmc/temp/xbmc.log.
Normally you don´t need to create symlinks for libshairport. The installation should be enough for xbmc to recognize this library. I think your log file will solve the issue....

I also noticed that I cant control xbmc menu using app on my idevices with zeroconf enabled and also http.
I dont see <enableairtunesdebuglog>1</enableairtunesdebuglog> on it, so I decided to retry using a fresh installation of raspbian. as I have used xbmc-20121004_1rpb-1_armhf.deb on my dev environment, and it had a compiled XBMC manually last sunday.
I will bring news by friday or saturday because tonight I have soccer/football game at stadium.
Greetings from Brazil (yep, I posted on your blog)
