Re: XBMC for Raspbian wheezy including airplay,nfs,dvdcss...

Fri Oct 05, 2012 6:26 am

Hi,

Important notice: There is a problem with taglib, so that xbmc won´t start. Message that shows up:

Code: Select all

/usr/lib/xbmc/xbmc.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libtag.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Also airplay is not working from the start. To fix these issues follow these steps:
Download taglib: http://sourceforge.net/projects/selfpro ... b/download and libshairport : http://sourceforge.net/projects/selfpro ... b/download
Then:

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg -i taglib_20121005-1_armhf.deb
sudo dpkg -i libshairport_1-1202030-1_armhf.deb
Taglib wont create the symbolic links, so that xbmc wont find the lib although it is installed. So we have to do it manually:

Code: Select all

cd /usr/lib/
sudo ln -s libtag.so.1.12.0 libtag.so.1
sudo ln -s libtag.so.1 libtag.so
After you installed the required libraries you can install xbmc. It should then start properly

then done this cmd instead

and seems to be working with stretch but when starting/stopping vids i see the terminal screen is this normal?

I had a typo in the path for setting the symbolic links. The updated fix is posted on the blog: http://selfprogramming.bplaced.net/inde ... /comments/.
Sorry for that :? ...
I did´t get it why sometimes shows the terminal screen when playing or stopping videos. I will investigate that....

Hello nIerSify,

You made a great job, thank you!

I have problems with AirPlay, I enabled it on XBMC settings however my idevices dont recognize any airplay device. Last weekend I tested this feature pretty good on raspbmc. I tried to create, links for libshairport as you described to libtag like:

Code: Select all

cd /usr/local/lib
sudo ln -s libshairport.so.0.0.0 libshairport.so.1
sudo ln -sf libshairport.so.1 libshairport.so

cd /usr/lib/
ln -s /usr/local/lib/libshairport.so.1 ./libshairport.so.1
But it didnt worked, I am using arm128 on start.elf

Any help is appreciated.

Hi, :)

can you please post or upload your xbmc.log? Its located under /root/.xbmc/temp/xbmc.log.
Normally you don´t need to create symlinks for libshairport. The installation should be enough for xbmc to recognize this library. I think your log file will solve the issue.... ;)

Hi,

i don´t see an error in the log file, so that airplay wouldn´t work. Please enable the debug function of xbmc under settings-system....and upload the log after trying to play something via airplay :)

It seems that all dependencies are met somehow, but i still can't start it.

form the shell I get:

Code: Select all

/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtk-2.0/gtk/__init__.py:57: GtkWarning: could not open display
  warnings.warn(str(e), _gtk.Warning)
Error: unable to open display
FEH.py: cannot connect to X server
and from within X it complains about a missing GL driver.

Hi,

the required libraries are now dependencies for xbmc installation. Take a look at this page: http://selfprogramming.bplaced.net/inde ... -for-xbmc/ to install the required libraries. You will need to install these libraries before you install xbmc.

After that you will need to correct the symlinks for the libraries. See here: http://selfprogramming.bplaced.net/inde ... /comments/

After that xbmc should start. Ensure to connect your display via hdmi. I didn´t test it with tv-out.

Normally you install a deb and then afterwards do apt-get -f install to fix missing dependencies.
This should also configure the package which was missing the dependencies.
Another drawback of manually installing dependencies is that those packages are marked as installed manually and don't get removed if you remove xbmc.

This should be done by a configure script which is automatically run at the end of the installation.
Ideally you'd only have to do two things:

Code: Select all

dpkg -i xbmc*.deb
apt-get -f install
I'm just pointing this out as hints for future improvements and ease of installation.

I will try to make the installation process easier next time. I see that the installation process as it is now is not very handy ;)

I will compile a newer version in the next two weeks or maybe earlier if i got the time and try to improve the installation process as you mentioned.

By the way does it work for you?

Not yet ;)
I didn't put a whole lot of time in it anyway.
I was checking if the dependency thing had been solved, mostly.
I'll check if I have all dependencies installed and run a reconfigure for XBMC.

Hi,

i don´t see an error in the log file, so that airplay wouldn´t work. Please enable the debug function of xbmc under settings-system....and upload the log after trying to play something via airplay :)

Hi nIerSify,

My iphone and ipad only discovered airplay feature when i installed avahi-daemon following instructions on http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=AirPlay. So, I recommed you to add this on your tutorial.

I am worried about CPU usage too high with this combination raspbian + XBMC, It gets around 90% all the time by xbmc.bin, also on menu mode. Is there any workaround to decrease it?

thanks again,

Jorge

Hi,

normally you don´t need to install the avahi-daemon. Airplay comes with xbmc. The airplay function is the only feature i cannot really test. I have no ipad or another apple device because i am using android most of the time. There is only one player supporting airplay for android and that thing has worked with the latest xbmc build. Maybe you want to download the complete raspbian + xbmc image on my site tomorrow to test it with your devices. :)

I will upload a new image containing the latest raspbian image and the latest xbmc-build on my site on sunday (14.10.2012) Basically tomorrow ;) ...

P.S
I included a facebook-like-button for anyone who wants to share it.... :)

Hi :)
i will upload a new image of raspbian (version: 2012-09-18) and the latest xbmc build (xbmc_20121004-1_armhf.deb). It contains the latest raspbian image from here. The required libraries have been installed in order to get xbmc working. I also added a script to /etc/init.d/ for starting xbmc. Please note that this script starts xbmc as root. You may want to change the script according to your favor.

To start xbmc on boot:

Code: Select all

cd /etc/init.d/
sudo update-rc.d xbmc defaults
To disable xbmc on boot:

Code: Select all

cd /etc/init.d/
sudo update-rc.d xbmc remove
To resize the sd-card or to overclock the raspberry pi, you can use raspi-config.I also disabled the option to directly boot to the desktop. You can enable this feature in the raspi-config menu aswell.

Username: pi
Password: raspberry

This image supports the following features:
  • Compiled XBMC from mainline tree
    Airplay
    CEC
    dvdcss
    libblueray
    optical-drive
    omxplayer as default
I will post a download link, when the upload has finished ;)

@Jorge
You were right on installing the avhi-daemon in order to get airplay working :) . My android application was using upnp for streaming video and audio. After i installed the daemon and disabling upnp, airplay was working as expected. Thank you very much :D
I have posted the site you mentioned on my blog....

nIerSify,

All credit is yours, continue with your nice package and good tutorials.

I am still looking for a workaround about high CPU usage.

Cheers,

Jorge

The file is uploaded and can be download by following this link:http://selfprogramming.bplaced.net/?page=downloads. The file´s name is: raspbian_wheezy_20121015+xbmc.exe. Its a self-extracting archive so that you don´t need to install additional software anymore ;)
