XBMC for Raspbian wheezy including airplay,nfs,dvdcss.....

Thu Sep 20, 2012 2:47 pm

First i would like to thank the raspberrypi foundation for creating such a great device like the raspberry pi.
I´ve never seen such a low cost device with soo much potential :) I primarily use the raspi as a samba server and as a webserver for hosting my blog.
Secondarily i use it to watch movies or listen to the internet radio via xbmc.

In order to be up to date with all the xbmc builds, i am compiling the xbmc from source very often using the build instructions in this forum: http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 66&t=10304 and package them into a .deb file. To save you guys some time i started to share these builds on my blog. :)
If you are interested in the latest xbmc builds just visit my blog:http://blog-selfprogramming.dyndns.org/?
I will try to keep this up and try to provide some solutions, if the xbmc installation fails.

If you want to know what i am planning to do, take a look at: http://blog-selfprogramming.dyndns.org/ ... /comments/

Best regards

Your plan for the weekend sounds very interesting, good luck :)
I am using your .deb atm with cec working. I really don't see major differences to the other xbmc distro's compared to a standard raspbian + xbmc, which I prefer.
Tried to built the new tree myself, but failed a few days ago, hope you are more successful, I am very excited to test this new tree ;)

Hi,

for those who wonder why my blog is not reachable at the moment, i decided to shutdown the site in order to complete the compilation of the xbmc. I am compiling at the moment but it seems that i don´t have enough memory on the raspberry pi. So i am forced to setup a cross compiler...

I moved the site to a free webhoster and getting the content to the new wordpress installation..
Please be patient until the site is up again....

Sorry for any inconveniences

Hi, :)
you have to start it via

Code: Select all

sudo /usr/lib/xbmc/xbmc.bin/
.
After that it should start.....

Do I have to start acceleration everytime I want to play someone?

EDIT: by the way the command to start acceleration doesn't work...

Code: Select all

[email protected] ~ $ sudo /usr/lib/xbmc/xbmc.bin/
sudo: /usr/lib/xbmc/xbmc.bin/: command not found

This is to start xbmc period, not just the acceleration for it.

I would make sure all the libraries are installed then try re installing.

I think you missed his blog entry with the required libraries.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install libplist1 libmicrohttpd10 libtinyxml2.6.2 libyajl2 libssh-4 libmysqlclient18 liblzo2-2 libfribidi0 libcurl3-gnutls liblockdev1 libpcrecpp0

Shouldn't those dependencies be configured into the package itself so you can do a apt-get -f install after dpkg -i XBMC... ?

I just installed the xbmc-20120917_1rpb-1_armhf.deb version. After getting the libraries etc... It works with my ISO's... first version I have tried that does.

This is on a Raspbian Wheezy (3.2.27+ #160 PREEMPT Mon Sep 17 23:18:42 BST 2012 armv6l GNU/Linux) platform with 128/128 and no overclocking at this time.

Also have Android Short Beam working with it though the Short Beam app is a bit flakey.

Oh ok I missed required libraries.
By the way if I use sudo apt-get -f install, nothing finds to download... If I doble click on XBMC icon it asks for drivers, but if I use sudo /usr/lib/xbmc/xbmc.bin from terminal it's ok :)

Yes your right on that.... ;)

I will add the dependencies in the .deb package next time...
Thanks for that hint :)

Would you guys like my instructions on creating an easy dual boot with raspbian and xbmc? From what ive read, XBMC should be started at the terminal without starting X.

How do I get XBMC to autostart? Do I need to create a new runlevel?

I just have a script which I call which has:

Code: Select all

sudo /usr/lib/xbmc/xbmc.bin &
You could do the same simply by putting it in /etc/rc.local or go to the trouble of setting up a normal init.d script with runlevels etc...

I am using the RPi for a number of things so I am not autostarting it. I can do that remotely via ssh.

I have a dual boot menu setup to boot into either LXDE (startx) or XBMC, this is for the 9/18/12 Raspbian image

Here is what I did, incase anyone else wants to do the same, this is for after you already have XBMC up and running:

1. Make sure you are not auto booting into LXDE in raspi-config (sudo raspi-config if you need to get back into the menu). Then lets make it so the command line auto login in so we dont need to tyoe in the credentials everytime:

A. sudo nano /etc/inittab

B. put a # in front of
1:2345:respawn:/sbin/getty --noclear 38400 tty1

C. then add underneath of the above line:
1:2345:respawn:/bin/login -f pi tty2 </dev/tty1 >/dev/tty1 2>&1

CTRL+X,Y,Enter

Reboot the Pi to see if it takes you to a command prompt, it should boot up waiting for a command (and not a login). Go ahead and use startx

2. Now lets add some text to make it look like a boot menu. I am doing this through the MOTD file, it is the last set of text the gets displayed on the screen when you boot up.

sudo nano /etc/motd

Then add to the bottom (or whatever you want):

***Raspberry Pi Boot Menu. Press the # then hit Enter***
1. LXDE Desktop
2. XMBC Media Center

then
CTRL+X,Y,Enter

3. The last step is making shortcut (alias commands) to make the numbers 1 and 2 execute the boot commands:

sudo nano /home/pi/.bashrc

you should see a list of alias commands already listed,I added the following at the bottom of the list:

alias 1='startx'
alias 2='sudo /usr/lib/xbmc/xbmc.bin'

then
CTRL+X,Y,Enter

4. Reboot the Pi and see if it works. You should see the boot text you entered right above the command prompt, and the numbers 1 or 2 shoould boot into either LXDE or XBMC

Its not a proper boot menu, but its easy to install, delete, and edit

Return to “Raspbian”
