USB WIFI weird results

So I'm trying to setup my RPi to be a small little router now until I get an actual router. Anyways all was well for a bit, but anytime I try to put a load on the wifi adapter it will just get reset(loses IP address and such, have to do ifup/ifdown n such). It doesn't disconnect fully. However, after enough times of it resetting(no log it happening tho) I see in dmesg that it actually disconnects the wifi adapter from the hub and reconnects(kind of like a hard reset). I have a 2amp psu to it, so I know power shouldn't be an issue, however could this be a driver issue or does the wifi adapter just want to much power?

According to the pi, the chipset is, Atheros AR9271.

Edit2:decided to try something, plugged the wifi adapter in direct and it's "holding up" for now, it hiccuped once, but it's a lot more stable than it was before. It was plugged in via the small cord it came with originally.

Are you using a powered USB hub?

WiFi devices need a lot of power when they are transmitting.

Does your RPi have USB polyfuses? These are in the corner of the board next to the USB ports and have "14" written on them.

No I'm not, it was plugged in directly to the pi. I have figured tho the USB device is actually defective, I've had problems with it on my Windows computer as well, and the pi actually was working with it almost the same way when I did get it working, it just gave me more details on the problem.

So I am sending it off to get replaced and I will see what I get with the new one.
