Latest Raspbian Images (Unofficial)

So im trying to start and maintain a download of latest Raspbian images that will be hosted on SourceForge so if anybody would like to download the latest operating systems without having to update the system, they can.

I am using the pi-gen software that is from the Raspberry Pi Github account to pull official images and kernels.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/raspbian/

I will try and keep it up to date as much as possible and if I can get some help, i would appreciate it.

Thanks.

Why is Raspbian (full) "not recommanded for RPi1 or Zero." ?

There are still ongoing nightly builds at:
http://nightly.raspberrypi.org/nightlyimages-v2/

but that is still wheezy based - I don't think there is an equivalent nightly build for raspbian Jessie.

@FoTL -Ah, ok. I hadn't spotted that.

@B.Goode - Yes, I would like to know why he felt the need to add that. RPF don't make that distinction. In fact they go to great lengths to ensure compatibility of Raspbian across all Pi's. [I always feel the need to add that apostrophe, even though it is grammatically incorrect ;-) ] It may be a bit slower on a Pi 1, but not appreciably slower than it was before the Pi2/3 came out.

How can I trust you to do that? How can I trust you not to build some kind of backdoor into the OS you're hosting?

@DougieLawson, I'm not hosting any of the repos or kernels. All its doing is just building the operating system and you can go to https://github.com/ssfdre38/rpi-gen if you want to see what is being used.

@B.Goode I just don't recommanded it cause with the GUI and all the added programs, it can slow it down. People can still use it if they want to.

Checked out the GitHub, which Repo did you fork from? Just to follow the turtles all the way back up.

And there's no copyright files or headers? That's kind of odd to just release the code free like that, but quite generous none the less!

Edit: And your sourceforge link to the Raspbian Web Site just points back to your SF page, and not to the https://www.raspbian.org/ page.

@SonOfAMotherlessGoat https://github.com/RPi-Distro/pi-gen an official Raspberry Pi github account and their license doesnt want people to copyright it so im not going to. All im trying to do is just provide more up to date image release and not something that is months out and hoping to get more of the community to help with this so people who want to up to date images can have them free of charge.

I have a new Raspbian images out on my Raspbian sourceforge page with the latest updates. The reason i waited this long was cause there was no new updates with any part of Raspbian till now with OpenSSH. Since that is a major part of security that was updated, I pushed a new image. Please go to https://sourceforge.net/projects/raspbian/ to get my latest updates. And there is a noobs download there too but that is just a basic noobs with no os preset into the os directory so all os will come from http://downloads.raspberrypi.org/

So on some of my testing, the onboard wlan0 (aka onboard wireless) on the pi 3 hasnt been working but there is a great work around that i am using with my pi3 that works just fine. Visit https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruits-ra ... cidentalis as it does work and i will be testing a different way to get the onboard wlan0 to work without editing the interfaces page.

Will this new noobs-image work in an USB only environment?
I was following the steps in https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... des/msd.md and created a bootable USB stick.
Now I would like to replace the boot partition with the noobs files and recovery7.img to boot.
I know that I have to modify the settings partions also.

I did download the noobs lite image from https://sourceforge.net/projects/raspbi ... p/download.
I works fine with an SD card but not on an Raspberry PI 3 with a USB stick only. As far as I can see the file recovery.elf
has hardcoded /dev/mmcblk0 in it and does not know how to handle /dev/sda.
So far only https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... des/msd.md works for me.
It is the only way to boot a USB storage device without an SD card. When the boot is complete you can insert the SD card.
This is nice, because then you can modify the file system or other things that you could not when the root file system is in use.
I hope the Raspberry PI foundation will soon release a new recovery.elf file that will work with USB only situations.
Or maybe Berryboot will bring out a new version.

Noobs isnt set up to do boot from USB only Raspbian so the best thing to do is download Raspbian lite or full and follow how to set up boot from Mass Storge.

Ok so i have been working on my images and now i have a noobs set up with the latest raspbian images pre-installed in the os folder so if you would like to use the noobs you can and there is a noob-lite as well. I will be trying to make new images and noobs to go with it as much as possible.

Just so people know im using https://github.com/raspberrypi/noobs as the way to build noobs and it will only pull from official Raspberry Pi sources. This will also builds more up to date Noobs images.

Please make it clear that these are NOT official images. Official images can only be found on https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/ and nowhere else.

i never say these are official images. i just say that i use the same tools that the Raspberry Pi Foundation uses and release to make more up to date if people would like to use them.

You also don't do much to make it clear these aren't official images. The URL you've used makes it look somewhat official.

the URL that i use is sourceforge.net just cause they do check all files uploaded to their servers for any virus. the other url that i use is https://github.com/RPi-Distro/pi-gen as that is the scripting tool that i use that comes from one of the official Raspberry Pi Foundation github accounts.
