Hi! I'm somewhere on this forum read that the CEC supported on the last image Raspbian 2012-08-16-wheezy-raspbian. Support CEC should be on OS Raspbian, and not on xbmc...

Tomaz.
Mertz wrote:Hello! Thank you for your excellent work, but I do when receiving channels of MPEG-2 from Tvheadend, only sound no picture. MPEG-4 channels, including HD, works fine. Who knows how to fix this problem?
raspbmc is also updated to use the mpeg2 and vc-1 licence keys (see raspbmc.com)
There are some changes in the xbmc git that enables this, if I got the info right from this thread
http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 4&p=167047

Do you think that you have time to update the xbmc for raspian as well?
It would be much appreciated, thank you.

XBMC well works with MPEG-2, and it does not need to update of XBMC or Raspbian. For normal work the codec you need to buy and enter the license key to file /boot/config.txt

That is exactly what I have done, I got my keys by mail today.
I downloaded two test files, one VC-1 HD testfile, and another testfile in mpeg2. I tested booting raspian, and none of this files would play in omxplayer.
Then I inserted the keys inside config.txt and rebooted. Then both files played without any trouble.
But starting up xmbc the same files refuse to play.

Have you tested yourself by testing a file that wont play in xbmc and that will work if you enter the key?
Its strange that raspbmc needed to be recompiled to add this support then.

Look this post http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 33#p167033, downloading & write image, then enter licence key MPEG-2. If your have key for VC-1 only, MPEG-2 will not work.

The link you are posting is not really the same thing that this thread is about. The link you are posting replaces the Image with a version that includes a new XBMC version. While that is an interesting solution it is not really the same as this thread which allowed you to add XBMC to an existing Rasbpian OS setup.

It would appear that all that is needed is a recompile of the XBMC app like what was done in this thread so that it supports the license key system.

The current XBMC that this thread is about works great on my existing 16GB SDcard... it just doesn't support the new license abilities. It also includes a lot of other packages that I spent time setting up and tuning to work. A new image would not have any of that.

Mertz: you are right, it does work now.
I had the files (mpeg2 and vc-1 sample files) on a usb stick. But xbmc didnt play them, I tried both the tomaz version for raspian and raspbmc.
Then I had a look at the /home/pi/.xbmc/temp/xbmc.log file. I noticed there was some error messages concerning a couple of .rar files that also was on the stick. Further down in the log was some error messages about the movie files.
Then I cleaned ut the usb stick, and moved all files exept for the sample files and on emp3 file to a different directory on the stick.
Then I tested next time it all was working, both on Raspian/xbmc and in raspbmc. :)
Dont know what happened, but somehow those other files on the stick must have been messing with xbmc.

For those who are interested in a .deb package of the latest xbmc build, i have compiled the latest xbmc build using the compile instructions mentioned by mpthompson in this thread:
http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 66&t=10304

I´ve configured it additionally with dvdcss and optical drive support. Airplay is also working fine.
I haven´t tested nfs yet...

I have tested this build against the previous 2012-07-15-wheezy-raspbian image. ;)

You can download it using this link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/il7is1w4p6bb ... ASf5/Raspi
which i posted in my blog: http://blog-selfprogramming.dyndns.org/ ... pberry-pi/

Cool... will play with it tonight. My 2nd RPi should be here by Saturday to allow for my playing as well, all the parts for it (WiFi, Memory, SDcard) arrived yesterday.

Hi,
would be nice if you check out the nfs support by trying to connect your xbmc with your NAS :)

P.S
I will compile a new xbmc version next week to try out more features ;)

Does this build include the modifications to omxplayer to enable playback of all WMV3 files. This does not yet appear to have reached the XMBC Masters.

This link seems to be the XMBC modification. https://github.com/huceke/xbmc/tree/raspberrypi

No my current build doesn´t contain this modification. I used the repository: git://github.com/xbmc/xbmc-rbp.git for getting the xbmc sources.
I will compile a new version tomorrow and try the repository you mentioned. :)
If it compiles, i will post a download link here in this thread and on my blog ;)

The modifications have now been merged with the XBMC master, so I suggest now just using your normal repository

I have finished compiling the new xbmc version :) I have tested this xbmc build with the 2012-08-16-wheezy-raspbian image. This build contains nfs, airplay, dvdcss, optical-drive and libcec.

One last thing to say is that i haven´t testet cec support yet, because i don´t have a cec adapter...
You can download the xbmc package by following this link: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12601231/Raspi/ ... _armhf.deb
You may have to install the following libraries:

I use the hdmi output for audio playback so i can´t confirm if my build has the same problems mentioned in the post. If i got some time for experimenting i will try out and see if i have the fluttering effect ;)

If you use Raspbmc OS you shouldn´t install my package. XBMC is already included in Raspbmc and should start automatically. I tested this package against the 2012-08-16-wheezy-raspbian image. If you installed this package you can start xbmc with

Code: Select all

sudo /usr/lib/xbmc/xbmc.bin
. If you installed all required libraries it should start straightaway.

Sorry, I had a stupid mistake with my last post. I wanted to say that I use Raspbian, but since before that I tried Raspbmc without success, I got confused :)

Return to “Raspbian”
