I created the symlinks but now I get:

Code: Select all

/usr/lib/xbmc/xbmc.bin: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/libEGL.so: file too short
and in /opt/vc/lib/ size of the lib is 0.

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Aug 28 09:40 libEGL.so

I have the same file in:

Code: Select all

[email protected]:~/.rpi-firmware/vc/hardfp/opt/vc/lib# ls -ltra | grep libEGL.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 205372 Aug 18 13:43 libEGL.so
[email protected]:~/.rpi-firmware/vc/hardfp/opt/vc/lib# cd /root/.rpi-firmware/vc/softfp/opt/vc/lib/
[email protected]:~/.rpi-firmware/vc/softfp/opt/vc/lib# ls -ltra | grep libEGL.so
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 205336 Aug 18 13:43 libEGL.so
I'm also missing (from /opt/vc/lib) the below two files:

/opt/vc/lib/libvchiq_arm.a
/opt/vc/lib/libvcos.a

Did you get Hexxeh's rpi-update and run that? I ran that on my Raspbian install before I did all this, perhaps you have some out of date firmware.

I'm on one of the latest kernels. I wonder if an upgrade would actually fix the issue if somehow I uninstalled some needed packages.

Possibly, maybe ask apt-get what packages those files belong to? I can't remember the exact syntax.

I managed to fix this by removing and then installing back libraspberrypi0, but it might be that I messed up other things as I got some errors during reinstall of this package.

Just tried this but it wacked out my WiFi.... tried to reinstall the WiFi drivers, but the WiFi is still not working.

If I run xbmc, it pops something up on the screen but then clears the screen so I can't see what it said and I am back at the command prompt. does the same thing as pi or as root.

Headless system, so I will have to fix the edges getting cut off first so I can see what I am typing and do some more digging (reading more of the thread to see if someone else is having similar)

Would have edited the last post but this forum doesn't allow that ... kinda dumb.

In any case, I was able to get my WiFi back... Had to re-apply the driver more than once.

When running xbmc I see now (from an SSH terminal) the following is error..

Code: Select all

/usr/lib/xbmc/xbmc.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libEGL.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
A quick check using ldd shows:

Code: Select all

        libEGL.so => not found
        libGLESv2.so => not found
        libbcm_host.so => not found
        libvcos.so => not found
        libvchiq_arm.so => not found
I see another user is having the same issue.

** UPDATE **
Ahh.. edit button is still there..

I redid the symbolic links and I've got it running. will play now...

You need to start XBMC and use setup to calibrate the settings to your display. Note you can do this with only a keyboard, no mouse needed.

I have been unable to play ANY iso images that I have. Other things work okay. In this mode (with non-dedicated setup), it is a tad bit slow to use but if it played my ISO's that would be good enough.

As mentioned above, I am unable to play ISO files... I turned on logging and got a log of what it said.

Not really sure what I should be looking for though..

Log is found:
https://raw.github.com/gist/3588807/bc6 ... 3/xbmc.log

Not sure if there is a different thread I should be posting this in.

This question has been mentioned a few times in a thread called “OpenELEC meets Raspberry Pi - Part 1 (XBMC)”. The only likely answer I found, was that it could be a license issue. This is not gospel, There are 50 pages on this thread and I have not read all of them. I am not an expert.

It was not practical to consider playing .iso files (for DVD's at least) until there was hardware support for mpeg2 decoding because of performance limitations. Now that the mpeg-2 licenses can be bought to do mpeg-2 decoding in the GPUmaybe the Pi version of XBMC will be enhanced to support this as well.

I didn't see any mention of MPEG in the output of the log file, so I didn't think of that as being the issue. I have the Mpeg-2 license, but never thought that the XBMC app needed to be updated.

It has been updated in the bundled versions already, but this most likely will need to be updated before it works.

Thanks, that worked for xbmc. but what about raspbian? I have the same problem with it.

to be honest, I commented out the entry that was changed in the config.txt so that it uses the default. Has no effect on XBMC after it was configured.

Code: Select all

## disable_overscan
## Set to 1 to disable overscan
##
##     Value    Description
##     -------------------------------------------------------------------------
##     0        Overscan Enabled (Default)
##     1        Overscan Disabled
##
#disable_overscan=1
Commenting it out is the dame as setting it to default which disables Overscan.

config.txt is located in the /boot partition.

If you are booting and accessing the RPi from SSH or direct from the console...

/boot/config.txt

Note it may not be as commented as mine is. I have added the fully commented version Ref: http://ly.tnet.com/U.

In any case, all you need to do is find the line:

disable_overscan=1

And comment it out.

If you have a android phone or tablet you can use a remote app. there are similar things for the iDevices as well.

I use one on both my Nexus 7 tablet and HTC Rezound phone.

The app I am using is: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... oid.remote
