The libusb-1.0 source package was dropped because it no longer had any binaries built from it. Looking further it seems that the source package name changed because debian switched to a fork. http://packages.qa.debian.org/libu/libu ... 4916Z.html

Good catch, plugwash. That name-change was undoubtedly a good idea, but I guess that's why I missed it. Thanks for the extra digging, and all the other work you have been doing for Raspbian.

uemacs, since there's really no alternative.

Everything can be done the easy way from keyboard, and the macro recorder is so powerful that I even installed it on windows as np++ et al. is *much less* capable.

I'll compile it on Raspbian as soon as I've left all initial trouble with it behind me.

Is there a plan to include vice from the contrib package? It compiles and works, I've tested it like this and created a package for it: http://pastebin.com/JGRT1Lea

We do intend to start building arch specific packages from contrib and non-free at some point but I do not know exactly when.

So yes, I'd like to see clisp in the Raspbian repos.
I tried.and failed to get this one to build, I added armhf to the arhitecture lists and tried to build it. It failed with an internal compiler error. I then tried modifying the package to build with gcc-4.7. It got futher but it ultimately failed with.

./lisp.run -B . -N locale -E UTF-8 -Epathname 1:1 -Emisc 1:1 -norc -m 2MW -lp /clisp-2.49/src/ -x '(and (load "/clisp-2.49/src/init.lisp") (sys::%saveinitmem) (ext::exit)) (ext::exit t)'
make[1]: *** [interpreted.mem] Illegal instruction

However there are other common lisp implementations in debian and at least ecl and gcl are available in raspbian. Are either of these usable for you?
After applying the patch from:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.ph ... tid=301355

and patching rules for gcc-4.7.0 and adding armhf as architecture to control, I could build and run the clisp packages on a qemu raspbian emulator.

The packages and changed files can be downloaded from:

I'd like to see supercollider for my ongoing rpi synth project. supercollider-doc, supercollider-common, supercollider-vim and supercollider-emacs are there but they don't install.

supercollider is failing to build due to bug 674386

I've poked the bug report but I don't plan to do anything locally in raspbian until I know what if anything will be happening about supercollider in debian wheezy. In the meantime you should be able to build the sid package yourself from source.

Is there a reason why you don't just build all packages, like in the standard ARM Debian distribution? I guess most packages would work even with hard float, many packages probably even don't need floating point support at all.

The current situation is that we are using an old and fragile wanna-build, we need to get arround to migrating to a modern wanna-build but it's difficult to find time when mpthompson and I are arround at the same time to sort things out.

Once we get migrated to the newer wanna-build we plan to expand what we build.

I have been trying to install R. The canonical way to do this is
sudo apt-get install r-base
but when I try that it complains about umet dependencies.

Narrowing this down it is the absence of r-recommended and here is what happens when I try to install r-recommended

========== cut here ==============

Reading package lists...
Building dependency tree...
Reading state information...
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
r-recommended : Depends: r-cran-cluster (>= 1.9.6-2) but it is not installable
Depends: r-cran-foreign (>= 0.7-2) but it is not installable
Depends: r-cran-kernsmooth (>= 2.2.14) but it is not installable
Depends: r-cran-lattice (>= 0.10.11) but it is not installable
Depends: r-cran-mgcv (>= 1.1.5) but it is not installable
Depends: r-cran-nlme (>= 3.1.52) but it is not installable
Depends: r-cran-rpart (>= 3.1.20) but it is not installable
Depends: r-cran-survival (>= 2.13.2-1) but it is not installable
Depends: r-cran-mass but it is not installable
Depends: r-cran-class but it is not installable
Depends: r-cran-nnet but it is not installable
Depends: r-cran-spatial but it is not installable
Depends: r-cran-matrix but it is not installable

=================== cut here =================

Now this is not a show stopper because I can install r-base-dev which gives me a working installation minus those packages and I assume I can install them from source from within R but it could trip up someone else.

I am using the pisces image version r3 if that makes a difference.

There was a problem in debian a while back with many gnu R packages on arm and it seems mpthompson blacklisted a long list of R packages because of this. This has now been worked arround by debian and i've now un-blacklisted the packages but it may take some time to get them all built. I'll keep you posted on how things go.

Thanks plugwash. As i say this is not a showstopper so no need to give it a high priority, I am sure you have plenty of other demands on your time.

Just to confirm it works here too.

Thanks

Package? Anything that will play Raspberry Pi site videos on Raspberry Pi itself.

I'm not sure about the Pi site using effects that the Pi can't display.

Unfortunately I don't think there is any package in debian that will let you browser the web and play videos from it on a Pi. To do that would require modifying a web browser to hook into the videocore libraries and use them for decoding (the CPU doesn't have the grunt to do it).

Some of the media center apps can play videos from the web but I don't think they have any way of browsing to find them.

The uw-imapd and ipopd daemons were dropped from the uw-imap source package by debian because "Code is in bad shape and better alternatives exist."

I'm not going to re-enable the building of internet server daemons that debian explicitly decided to drop because the code was in bad shape.

Makes sense, indeed.

Thanks for your feedback.

@okashi - popa3d is in the repo and can be used in place of ipopd. Not sure about an imap alternative.
