I am getting errors from apt-get update and an attempt to install geany failed with a problem accessing 'mirrordirector.raspian.org'. Is this down to heavy traffic or something more fundamental?

Was this during an upgrade to jessie or just during normal administration of the system? (if the latter then i'll split this to it's own thread)
Can you reproduce the problem now? if so can you post the complete output of the failing commands?

Just normal administration. I installed Jessie image to a new sdcard. I will try to reproduce later - not sure I can show output because I use a PC to access this forum.

Just tried again and everything worked as normal. Ithink there must have been a hiccup on the server.

The official zip file appears to be corrupt. I down loaded it from the torrent and from the direct download and both matched the SHA-1 check. However, the zip file contains "2015-09-24-raspbian-jessie.img" file with size 807,167,523,358,810 KB! That's 807 PETABYTES! I can't extract it.

It isn't corrupt. The problem will be with your unzipper which cannot handle files bigger than 4GB.

Take a look here viewtopic.php?f=28&t=121867&view=unread#unread.

How about describing what command you entered and what the result was?

The command I used to run on wheezy still works on jessie:

Code: Select all

sudo mount 192.168.0.10:/home/dom/TestMedia -o _netdev,nfsvers=3,rw,intr,noatime,rsize=32768,wsize=32768,nolock,proto=tcp /home/pi/dell

Code: Select all

pi@raspberrypi ~ $ sudo -s
root@raspberrypi:/home/pi# mount -t nfs 192.168.1.21;/opt/RPI /opt/RPI -o vers=2
mount: can't find 192.168.1.21 in /etc/fstab
bash: /opt/RPI: Is a directory
root@raspberrypi:/home/pi#
ARGHHHH Now I paste it into here on a big screen I immediately see the problem ! I blame the small text and my failing eyes :-)

I've made an image using the image from the web page (without noobs) and plan on booting it for the first time later today.

Is the first time setup the same as the Weezy version?

Has an effort been put into having pre-installed CUPS gui for printer users?

Just upgraded (new install on new SD card), and installed TightVNC, following AdaFruit's Lesson 7. However - despite putting an autostart script in for VNC, I find it (mostly) won't ? Occasionally, it does start (once every 5-6 restarts ? but no more), meaning I almost always need to SSH & start it manually.

Any ideas ? Works perfectly in Wheezy ... ;)

Will Raspbian turn into a version of Jessie with a sudo apt-get dist-upgrade in a couple of weeks time?

Or does it need a completely new installation?

Will all the software work on Jessie?

I don't have the link handy, but the blog post links to a thread with upgrade instructions. However, it's not the safe or recommended method.

I can't say anything about ALL the software, so you will have to be more specific with the second part of that question. Pretty much everything will work as it did, with some minor exceptions. Some things are now done differently with the move away from sysvinit to systemd.

What is different about scratch in Jessie? It says version 1.4 and that was the previous version.

The new Raspbian does not have the directory /usr/share/fonts/truetype/droid.
Therefore, I cannot show Japanese characters on UIs with default Raspbian
because there is no /usr/share/fonts/truetype/droid/DroidSansJapanese.ttf.

Is it possible to add the "droid" fonts in the future release of Raspbian?
If no, I hope that some Japanese font package is added to Raspbian, such as fonts-ipafont.

Synaptic requests a Password when started. pi does not work.
I downloaded Jessie yesterday and put it onto fresh cards.
Then I installed synaptic using apt-get as usual.

When started it requests a root password.

HELP!

Synaptic again

The dialogue asks for password for root.
Neither pi nor raspberry is accepted.

A workaround would probablly be to start synaptic using "sudo synaptic" from the command line.

Jessie and CV2

Wed Sep 30, 2015 11:41 am

I would be grateful if someone could confirm which version of CV2 is included in Jessie. What I really mean is - is it a later version than the one included in Wheezy?
Thanks
Colin

Systems will not be upgraded unless the user explitictly changes their sources.

Upgrading should work but some people have reported problems and so the raspberry pi foundation don't consider it a supported option. They did however post some instructions which other people have linked.

Return to “Raspbian”
