2012-08-08-wheezy-armel has soft fp
uname -a gives 3.1.9+ #272 PREEMPT
ls /lib | grep arm-linux-gnueabi gives arm-linux-gnueabi

2012-10-28-wheezy-raspbian has hard fp
uname -a gives 3.2.27+ #160 PREEMPT
ls /lib | grep arm-linux-gnueabi gives arm-linux-gnueabihf

I am running tests on the vfp with 'C' and assembler routines.
gcc -c -mfloat-abi=hard test.c gives an error on a soft fp system.

Hope this helps
Don

I haven't been able to track what's been going on here since the presentations at Java One a few months ago, but from a quick scan of the posts here, we don't expect Oracle to release a Raspbian-compatible version of a JDK until they release Java 8 in Fall 2013, correct?

So, I've gotten the impression that the best-performing Raspbian-compatible alternative is OpenJDK 7 with JamVM, which I timed and am very impressed, but Avian doesn't seem to fare as well as JamVM (although still far better than OpenJDK 7). Mind you, these were just a few typical demos that could be quickly compiled that were picked at random to make sure my installation was working.

Next, on to try out some OpenGL ES stuff ... with Blocky as a starting point? :)

In the quick test I did (see my post in the java forum) avian beat jamvm but I imagine this is very workload specific.

@Jim

Oracle never stated a release date, but they stated that they will bring a Raspbian version out.

My assumption was that they bring it out with Java 8, due to the changes (load less of the whole JVM, if not needed) they showed at JavaOne. They even presented a Raspberry with a experimantel Java 8 version on it.

There exists a developer preview of Oracle embedded Java 8 including JavaFX
