SqueezeBox-Server and armhf

Wed Jul 18, 2012 11:56 am

As some others mentioned before, SqueezeBox Server (or Logitech Media Server) don't run on the Raspbian distribution. That's bad, because Raspbian is the new official distro for Raspberry Pi. I'm not sure about it, but it may depend on CPAN. (please correct me if I'm wrong). So I did some research and found this:

As far as I know CPAN is automatically installed with SqueezeBox Server. This is not the armhf version as far as I know, it's the normal Debian version. So what about installing a SqueezeBox version without CPAN? It can be found here: http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.7. It's a linux tarball and I don't know how to install! (maybe someone else do) After that (or before) we could install CPAN for armhf, can be find here: http://packages.debian.org/de/sid/armhf/perl/filelist.

Is someone able to check this out?

Is the SqueezeBox Server built from opensource, or is it a binary package provided by Logitech?

SqueezeBox Server, or better Logitech Media Server is under GPL. There is only one folder called "Firmware" with Firmware for the Logitech devices. The SW in this folder is not under GPL. You can find the installation packages here: http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.7

Hi,

This is a perpetual issue for squeezebox server owners ... Fundamentally what you're seeing many people are seeing running sbs (lms as they have rebranded it) on arm hf platforms and fundamentally Logitech as usual are way behind the curve ensuring sbs works with stock perl/cpan on these platforms .. Personally ive tried downgrading perl, recompiling cpan etc .. But it really needs someone who is familiar with the sbs perl bloat to compile and bug fix with the latest perl and other required stock binaries on armhf .. Sadly Logitech have run squeezebox in to the ground so don't hold your breath !

If you search the forum you should find that someone has manged to get it working on Raspbian and efforts are under way to make it more readily available.

LMS does work on Raspbian with minimal patches if you rebuild the necessary CPAN modules: I have put up a tutorial for how to build it at http://www.imagineict.co.uk/squeezy-pi for those that are interested.

As far as I understand it, LMS bundles pretty much everything it needs in the .deb package, except for perl itself. Therefore, installing CPAN modules or compiling them in the system folder will not work - you need to put the perl modules (or a link to them) inside the squeezebox folder. It is easier to just let LMS build the modules it wants, using the compile options that Logitech uses.

I would gladly release the deb package that I can easily create from my own working system, but I don't think Logitech lets anyone else release binaries of their code... allthingspi (http://allthingspi.webspace.virginmedia.com/lms.php) has, however, got a tutorial/download that doesn't require compilation. See http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 68#p121268 for his original post.

Really? It should be working fine....
Do you mean the log to the page, or a link on the page? I am getting referrals from this page in my logs, so others are certainly getting through.
