It wasn't my original intention, no. Set a root password with `sudo passwd`. sshd doesn't let root log in with no password.

Fair enough; I guess that sshd behaviour means it's not quite the hole I first imagined :) When fixing that I'd also take out the NOPASSWD line for user 'pi' from /etc/sudoers as they are a member of group sudo anyway.
