Awesome work guys, I have been lurking for quite a while and tried out most of the distro's (well the one's with a gui....), I am not a "noob" but nor am I as advanced as some, I am a windoze programmer by trade, or more by accident and tbh, I hate it, as someone who learned programming back when a child on a Sinclair spectrum 16k (with my Dad thinking I was on some Wargames like mission to cause a globalthermonuclear war), I often felt that there was something missing, a lot of the modern software development tools take us away from what's going on, and in a lot of cases even using the Win API is seen as advanced.
Anyway, I have kind of fallen out of love with programming of late, but when the Pi was announced I hoped that it would reinvigorate my interest, I have never fallen out of love with Tech, just programming. I have had great fun messing with the device and running the various distro's and I am relearning all the time.
But back to the point, this latest release is the most complete and pain free that I have used, I always approach stuff from the perspective of "could my Dad use it", this is one of the first times that I could say "Yes, with some help". Once the SD card was in I was really pleasantly surprised to see the initial Boot configuration screen, this is something that has been lacking to date and only the Puppy distro from what I have seen had something similar. This increases the ease of use so much, for the first time I haven't had to mess about with partitions, boot config files or wonder why I had annoying black bars on my monitor. I ran through and rebooted straight away and everything so far, just works, this is a massive step forward in my eyes.
Some really nice touches in the actual Desktop, with the prominent desktop shortcuts etc, I knew how to get into that stuff before, but the issue is, not everyone does, a lot of folk are even scared to go into a menu these days, especially kids who are always told to "not mess", a shortcut makes you want to click it.
So sorry for the long post, guess its kind of my introduction as well, but just wanted to say, well done, this is a really cool Project as a whole and this distro especially seems the absolute best way to go for this Pi noob.
Off to play and see if I can get my WiFi working and Wireless RiiMote keyboard/touchpad thingy working at the same time with no USB hub, and you know what, I shall enjoy every minute of it!
