Thank for releasing a compiled package of Kodi 15 for Raspbian !

I'm new to Raspberry and Raspbian, I've bought a RPI2 last week and I have a fresh install of Raspbian Jessie. I've first installed Kodi 14, and I got the so famous black screen issue on exit. So I followed your instructions and installed Kodi 15.2RC3. It have been installed well and it works fine but ... It still hang on a black screen when exiting Kodi, nothing changed regarding this issue for me :(

Have you any idea ? Have I missed a step ?
Before installing Kodi 15.2 rc3 from here on a fresh Raspbian Jessie install I did:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo rpi-update
sudo reboot

After installing I did all the commands specified up to the end of the first post in this topic (page 1 up).

For me when I exit I am right back to the Desktop.
In case the problem does not get fixed for you, maybe run the script I used when having the problem with "sudo script" 8-) :

echo '#!/bin/bash' > /usr/bin/kodiexitfix

How do you start kodi? Do you use my startkodi command (or startt from the desktop menu)?

Kodi "system" tab tells me that I have : "Raspbian GNU/Linux 8 (Jessie), and "Kodi 15.2-RC3 compiled : Oct 10 2015). To run kodi, I uses the desktop shortcut which exec "startkodi %u" .
I have just executed a system update and a firmware update, then rebooted, but it has not resolved the problem :(

1) Did you follow all the additional steps in the OP?
2) Install x11-xserver-utils. My startkodi script uses xrefresh, if available.

Thank you for helping me.

1/ I have followed only these steps :
wget http://steinerdatenbank.de/software/kod ... sie.tar.gz
tar -xzf kodi-15-jessie
cd kodi-15-jessie
sudo ./install
and
sudo ./install_cec3
But I didn't followed the next steps because I come from a previous install of Kodi 14. Should I ?

2/ xrefresh seems to be available :

Code: Select all

[email protected] ~ $ xrefresh --help
usage: xrefresh [-options] [geometry] [display]

You could at least check, if the udev files do exist and also check the groups.
Otherwise I have no idea. I compiled and published the first kodi-15 version more than 5 months ago and nobody (many thousand downloads) complained about a black screen since then.

And for me subtitles appear but then don't refresh - the first one remains on screen. Please anyone see if you have the same problem. I get this problem for Jessie but better check both :D .

Well keeping a stable kernel too long not updated can lead to security vulnerabilities - better a little unstable than not secure... For now it works perfect  .

That's not how it works. All the fixes will eventually be stable. If there are desperate security vulnerabilities they will still go to stable. Rpi update will essentially get the beta which is not recommended.

Which player do you use? I only use omxplayer.
You might also install libass5.

I'm getting a black screen on exit everytime too (15.2 on jessie). I ran kodi and installed some addons before doing the additional steps in the OP, would this be the problem?

I also did not use the config.txt from the OP as my gpumem is set high enough, should I be using it?

Complete Linux noob here so any help is very much appreciated and a massive thanks to gkreidl for the guide.

For all the extreme noobs out there:

wget http://steinerdatenbank.de/software/kod ... sie.tar.gz
tar -xzf kodi-15-jessie
cd kodi-15-jessie
sudo ./install

should be

wget http://steinerdatenbank.de/software/kod ... sie.tar.gz
tar -xzf kodi-15-jessie.tar.gz
cd kodi-15-jessie
sudo ./install

About the subtitles I am using omxplayer and libass5 - default in fresh Raspbian Jessie.

Thanks, I've updated the OP accordingly.
Regarding the subtitles; I run a test yesterday (only have a few video files with subtitles) and it worked for me. So this may be something very special.

Since yesterday there is a kodi-15.1 Jessie release in the archive of the foundation. It contains a few RPi-specific patches and may be a better solution than my package. It is not optimized for RPi2 and will work with any RPi model.

Hello,

I have made a new install of Raspbian Jessie and Kodi 15.2 . I haven't the time to load movies into kodi yesterday, but it seems to be better since I'm able to exit kodi. I will try this evening after loading and playing some movies.

So we could install kodi 15.1 through an "apt-get install kodi" command now ?

Yes. But you should remove my package first.

Yes - the problem was only for a movie I got as a gift from someone on dvd:

Easier way for Raspbian Jessie:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install kodi
The version installed is:

Code: Select all

$ kodi --version
15.1 Git:Unknown Media Center Kodi
Copyright (C) 2005-2013 Team Kodi - http://kodi.tv
Works just fine...

I already reported it ( viewtopic.php?f=66&t=109088&p=831057#p829355 ) and also mention it now in the OP-
The difference is the newer version and that it has been compiled for RPi2 with some optimizations.
But basically I consider my job done now as we have a kodi 15 release in the repository. I will update it once more though to get the final 15.2 release.

Please I need help for that, I'm new about raspberry and kodi 15.x new compilation system
