Well, that's what you get after running configure:
Kodi Configuration:
------------------------
Kodi Version: 15.0-BETA2
git Rev.: 20150526-ac429af
It works really well for local media (on your network) and live TV (thats my main usage). Don't expect too many add-ons to work (but the few I have installed do work). There's still a problem with the youtube add-on: If you stop a youtube video it stops playing, but the stream doesn't stop, which looks like kodi is hanging (but it isn't). Workaround: move the slider to (almost) the end of the video and let it finish. But otherwise the youtube plug-in works well.

The hardest work this time was to get CEC support to work again, because they have switched to libcec3 a short time ago.

Hi, i just installed your build, however CEC isn't working for me. I installed everything like the instruction in the first post, any clues on how i can make it work again?

Edit: nvm, i just reinstalled cec-utils and is now working again. Thanks!

Did you install cec-utils from the repository? This versions uses libcec2 and not libcec3.

Try the following, please (from inside the kodi-15 folder):

Code: Select all

sudo ./install_cec3
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/cecc-client-3.0.0 /usr/bin/cecc-client
sudo ln -s /usr/bin/cec-client-3.0.0 /usr/bin/cec-client
The symbolic links are not created, when the debian package is installed (although they should).

Thanks for the build and explanations, that's awesome for noobs like me. :)

It's been working pretty well here, I just notice that the mouse cursor is very laggy when playing a video, but not when the menu is displayed over the video (still playing). Strange. Appart from that, it's awesome to be able to go back to Raspbian without losing mouse & keyboard or having to hard-reboot and damaging the SDcard.

Thanks a ton! Looking forward to the next updates :)

There's a setting for mouse refresh during video playback. By default it's 20 frames/sec.

Hi

I just tested your version of Kodi and it seems to run fine except one thing that also happens with Kodi 14.2 from the raspbian repo (from Michael Govern) and it was the main reason why I tried your build.

When using the Youtube addon from the Kodi repo, when playing some videos, and I try to seek forward or do stop, Kodi freezes. The only way that I know for it to start working again is to unplug the ethernet cable or kill the kodi.bin process.

Since it does not happen with all videos, here is one that happens always:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmeF2rzsZSU

Its easy to reproduce but I can upload some logs if you want.

Can you please take a look at that ?

Other thing I noticed is that your build doesnt support Airplay, and external DVD players, probably because you are compiling it with --disable-optical-drive --disable-dvdcss --disable-avahi.
Can you please enable this in your next build also ?

PS: I am using Raspbian with all updates till today.

Thanks in advance

I'm not responsible for the code and cannot change it. I know that there are problems with streams sometimes, but they have to be fixed by the kodi developers.

I'm following the usually recommended configuration options for Kodi on the RPi running Raspbian. Trying to install libdvdcss-dev throws an error so I cannot add DVD support. Maybe this will be fixed when we migrate to Jessie.

I could find the problem with Kodi and youtube addon (and possibly others) and was able to fix it.

The problem is in gnutls. First i tried to use a more recent version of gnutls but it doesnt work either, so i compiled Kodi 14.2 from Michael Govern's Bazaar with libcurl (which in Raspbian/Debian is compiled against OpenSSL) instead of libcurl-gnutls.

No ideia why the Kodi versions for Raspbian are being compiled with libcurl-gnutls since the recommend for linux is libcurl-openssl.

For anyone interested, here are the builds, no need to mess with libraries just install with apt / dpkg:
http ://pipplware.pplware.pt/pipplware/dists/unstable/

Its exactly the same version in Raspbian repo with only the change mentioned above. Will try to fix the "black screen on exit" bug later.

Hope you can fix your build also.

Thanks

Thanks for informing me. Can you tell me what you changed exactly? Sourcecode or configuration? I'd like to try it with the next version of kodi 15.

I just changed the configuration from the Bazaar here:

http ://michael.gorven.za.net/bzr/debian/xbmc/view/133/debian/rules

line 128, -libcurl-gntls to -libcurl

Then I compiled/built the packages again, from the respective Bazaar revision.

I am not aware how you exactly build/make your packages, you have to adapt it accordingly.

I just replaced libcurl4-gnutls-dev by libcurl4-openssl-dev on my system and ran another ./configure command. Seems to work (no errors).
I'll test it if I compile the next version.

Thanks again for keeping everything nice and up to date :)

Quick question though, I've run apt-get update / upgrade yesterday before installing 15rc1, and then startkodi didn't work anymore (I got a weird .cpp file error).

So I rolled back to a previous state with Beta2 and I've updated to Kodi RC1 following this topic. Everything's fine now, but I'm wondering what's gonna happen if I retry to update/upgrade now? Is startkodi gonna be broken again.
Thanks

Did you get a kodi 14.2 version while updating?

I don't even know, I know the update found Kodi, but was it from Michael's repository? (14.2) or 15rc1, I do not know, I'm just wondering if I should remove the repository for 14.2? (Not sure how to do that)

kodu 14.2 is now in the Foundation repository, but I'm not sure, if it also contains the newer libtag and cec-client versions.

Hi, I've just registered to ask the very same question.
It appears to not be included in this build.
I've been searching for hours to find a workaround, but nothing seems to work.

If you find anything, let me know please. (I will do the same, if I find something.)

I'm still searching too. I know on Linux mint with version 15 it won't work at first, run updater and it updates one file but I didn't get to catch what it was( I was hoping it would carry over)

I just installed this as the crash on exit annoyed me. It works!

On first launch, it advised RC2 is available. I see it was only a few hours ago, could this be compiled and made available?

Thanks, gkreidl. Good work :)
Your sig makes me want to ask: is there a browser that will run within Kodi?

Thanks for the information. I'll create a new version within a week or two.

Regarding Browser: No. Kodi (in the RPi) uses OpenGl ES for the interface; browsers require X11. But maybe I'll add Kodi as optional media player to Minimal Kiosk Browser in a future version.
