Changing screen mode breaks SDL display

Tue Mar 24, 2015 8:35 am

Hi all

newbie here, I've been trying to get a standalone Spectrum emulator working on my pi, using Raspbian and the SDL version of 'Fuse' (fuse-sdl)
Ive got it running okay (fullscreen, sound, through HDMI) logged in as root.

My problem is that I dont want to have to rely on 1080p HDMI as I'd like to plug it into various other televisions. However as soon as I change the display config in any way, fuse no longer displays anything and I just get a black screen.

If i use the composite out = black screen.
if I change the resolution or hdmi_mode in /boot/config.txt = black screen

any ideas why this causes the SDL display to fail?
any advice appreciated, thanks!
(edit) forgot to mention, its a Pi B (original)

I had a similar problem with DOSBox and solved it by updating the SDL libraries as detailed here:
