I need the "other programs" menu!

Hi all, I have a Raspberry Pi model B, and soon a Pi2 and I am beside myself with excitement over the new one, but for now I have a bit of a problem. I recently flashed the latest build of Raspbian (2015-1-31) onto my Pi and I do like the new interface update, but the "other programs" menu has been removed from the application menu and while I understand that it was removed to clean up the interface, I really need a way to get it back (without reverting to an older OS build). I recently installed a couple programs on the pi, but they don't show up in any of the app categories that are available in the application menu; I suspect that I would find them in the "other programs" menu, which is nowhere to be found. One of the two programs I was able to run from the terminal and I find that to be real pain, but not the other. I really need a way to modify the menu to bring back the "other" menu. Can anyone please help me?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
BluRazPi

Note that boot to desktop must first be enabled in order to do this.....

Go to [menu] --> shutdown and select Logout
Select LXDE from the popup menu box.
Login: pi
Password: raspberry (and you WILL see *** as you type)
Click login

You will now get the old desktop with [other] in the menu etc.
The choice will stick for future reboots.

To change back to the new setup.... logout and select [Default Xsession] and login to desktop again.

Is there anyway to get this to work with the current install? I have just installed BitScope and its desktop file indicates it should be listed in Science, Engineering and Application. However none of those show up. I have been forced to update the entry to include Office so I can have the icon.

I get this new interface was about cleaning up the default install but now it is preventing me from having a logical layout for the application menu :( Having an engineering application listed in the office section doesn't make sense to me ;)
