Re: [Guide] Kodi on Raspbian Buster

Wed Apr 22, 2020 6:15 pm

Hi Rascas,

thanks for your fast answer.

F9 and F10 are working here too ... but not + and -
Strange ...

Ahhhhh .... i found my mistake ...

In Raspbian i had selected the correct (german) keyboard ..... but not in Kodi (where it was english).

After changing that now Kodi functions as expected ... please excuse - and continue with your great work on Kodi :)

Regards (and stay healthy)

Re: [Guide] Kodi on Raspbian Buster

Hi Guys,

After some years of using Jessie and Kodi 17.3 on my raspberry pi v2(first release of it), I though I would give it a go update to Raspbian 10 (Booster) and latest kodi available(18.6). I am mostly using kodi for sopcast and acestream (using plexus and sopcastro plugins)

I am seeing a strange behaviour that I have no clue how to debug as there is nothing in the logs(even with debug enabled) to go by.

In a nutshell this is what it is happening:
- kodi is starting from systemd and starting normally
- opening up sopcastro plugin try to play a video (that I know for sure it will not work as the channel is offline)
- the interface will freeze right after showing the notifications coming from plexus "Channel notifications failed".

The strange thing is, if I try to use the remove (HDMI CEC), I do see the log lines related to my pressing of the buttons, so this tells me that Kodi is not completely frozen.

Worth saying that also raspberry itself is working and seems to not be even near close to max in regards to memory usage or cpu.

Does anyone have any idea to try out to debug it or get a better idea of what exactly is happening?

Relevant log lines as I can't seem to be able to attach the full log(invalid extension)

Plexus and Sopcastro are third party plugins, so unsupported. From what I know, Plexus doesn't work on the RPi for some time now, you have ask the guys who are maintaining the addons that you are using.

I don't think that you will get help here because you are using Banned_add-ons
If you can reproduce your problem without these Banned add-ons post a full log.

Hi guys,

Did not even know there is such a thing as banned addons.

The strange thing is that switching back to the old card works fine, guess I will keep using 17.3 (by the way plexus is still working fine at least on on 17.3).

Yes the Kodi Developers are very strict regarding 3rd Party add-ons and piracy is not to discussed in these forums, if it is not on Kodi's list you have to request from the specific add-on developer:

Kodi updated to 18.6-2

-https://github.com/PIPplware/xbmc/commi ... 0a7c32f840
-inputstream.adaptive addon updated to 2.4.4 for Disney+ addon support

Just update and upgrade the packages has you normally do.*

*Note that this packages are not yet available on Raspberry Pi repos, only on the PiPplware repo, you have to wait a little bit.

After upgrade to Kodi 18.6~2 (from 18.6~1) Kodi is not starting - crash log:
https://pastebin.com/0nri830i

RPi4 4GB RAM, Raspbian Buster
Linux raspberrypi 5.4.40-v7l+ #1316 SMP Tue May 12 13:10:42 BST 2020 armv7l GNU/Linux

Help needed :(

I tried:
- remove kodi, purge, fresh install
- delete whole ./.kodi dir without success - still same error
- install pulseaudio (I was not using it) without success - still same error
- rpi-update without success - still same error

I tried to run kodi-standalone manually:

Code: Select all

/usr/bin/kodi --standalone has exited in an unclean state 3 times in the last 29 seconds.
Something is probably wrong
=====
edit: So I returned to previous version which is OK:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get remove kodi
sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo apt-get autoremove
sudo apt-get install kodi=2:18.6-1~buster kodi-bin=2:18.6-1~buster
I can not recommend to do the upgrade to 18.6~2 ...

edit 2: Everything is fixed now - see below.

Hello,

i have a problem with the Terratec H6 (identified as Terratec H5 MKii) - Driver: dvb-usb-terratec-h5-drxk.fw.

I have 2 Raspis (Raspi3b+/Stretch) and Raspi4-4GB/Buster.
Problem is the different handling of the driver for the USB-TV stick (Terratec H6 or
H5MkII ).

With stretch/Leia 18.2/Raspi3b+ no errors
With buster/Leia 18.6/Raspi4 4GB always and never ending errors when TV playing

Below see dmesg when I connect the stick to the different Raspis:

Raspberry Pi 3B+

Kodi Leia 18.2 Git:20190428-a94ccc8ba5 - compiled 2019-04-30

Hello,

i have a problem with the Terratec H6 (identified as Terratec H5 MKii) - Driver: dvb-usb-terratec-h5-drxk.fw.

Raspbian Stretch (Kernel: Linux 4.19.66-v7+)
Kodi Leia 18.2 Git:20190428-a94ccc8ba5 - compiled 2019-04-30
Driver dvb-usb-terratec-h5-drxk.fw.

This looks like a kernel or kernel + module/driver for that tuner. Not something in Kodi itself.
I recommend that you open a new topic about that or maybe better, post an issue on Raspberry Pi kernel github page.

Re: [Guide] Kodi on Raspbian Buster

Thanks, i opened an issue on Github.

Now i have another problem: sometimes i cannot change the resolution in Kodi.
i.e, I change in System/Display the resolution from 1200x800 to 1024x768p

Kodi then changes the resolution and asks if i want to keep it. And there i am stuck. I cannot click No and i cannot click Yes. The mouse is
either stuck or invisible. The only solution to this is a reboot via putty.

Is the Kodi resolution somehow dependend on the HDMI1 or HDMI2 resolution? I made about 15 reboots today. But: sometimes it is possible to change, but so far i couldn't find out why it is sometimes possible, but mostly impossible.

@Rascas: I've noticed that your Pi-accelerated build of Kodi for Raspbian has left the Kodi update notification setting on, which means it is coming up tell me there is an update available, but there is no update package available yet. It might be worth disabling this, to stop folk pestering you for an update. It's not a problem for me, I just thought it was worth mentioning as it might make your life a bit easier :)

It might be worth disabling this, to stop folk pestering you for an update. It's not a problem for me, I just thought it was worth mentioning as it might make your life a bit easier :)
That's an addon that comes preinstalled in Kodi. It only warns you 1 time, when a new version comes out. Since Kodi does not provide pré-compiled bins for the Raspberry, which is what I do, it may take some time for me to build it and to become available. If it bothers you, you can disable that addon which is called "Version check".

It doesn't bother me. Like I said, it was just to try and make your life a bit easier. Thanks for the quick reply.

I have my raspberri pi 2 running the lastest version of rasbian, which is buster. while i try to stay in this with the desktop and launch kodi, i get a black screen with nothing on it thn after couple seconds the desktop reappears with a new crash log. Hi All,

I'm in the process of upgrading to Buster my Raspberry Pi 3B used for light desktop tasks and mainly used for Kodi. I'm using a new sdcard and I'm making the changes when I have the time but I'm still using the Stretch Raspbian version for now in the old sdcard.

The RP3B is connected to a 2012 Samsung SmartTV and all is ok when using Stretch, the resolution is [email protected] with Raspian and when I start Kodi the resolution is the same [email protected]

The problem is when I'm using Buster (fully updated), the Raspbian desktop works with the resolution [email protected] but when I start Kodi it changes to [email protected] Also when I leave Kodi it stays at [email protected] and the Raspbian desktop is over-scanning.

The Samsung TV has the HDMI port configured as PC as this solved the overscan problem when running at [email protected] either with Stretch or Buster. I tried many configuration combinations and for I had to do the Video Calibration to correctly setup Kodi screen.

Is the fact of the refresh rate change when I start Kodi on Buster desktop expected? Shouldn't the refresh stay at the same rate when using Raspbian desktop? I'm using all software from the Raspbian official sources.

I searched through the net but I didn't found an answer I could relate to my problem. Thank you for any pointer on how to solve this issue.

Regards,
Luis Sismeiro

Cannot do much with only that. Please post a full debug log: https://kodi.wiki/view/Log_file
