can't change window manager with lightdm

Sun Jul 15, 2018 7:42 pm

Hello-

I'm trying to change the window manager to dwm using lightdm.

I have dwm installed and tested it manually.

I created dwm.dwsktop in /usr/share/xsessions. I changed the user-session setting in lightdm.conf. But lightdm just keeps starting lxde. It seems hardcoded, or I don't know where to change it ;)

I tried both dwm and dwm.desktop for user-session.

My lightdm.conf, without comments:

Code: Select all

[LightDM]
[Seat:*]
user-session=dwm
[XDMCPServer]
[VNCServer]
dwm.desktop:

Code: Select all

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=Dwm
Comment=Dynamic window manager
Exec=dwm
Icon=dwm
Type=XSession
Output of lightdm --show-config:

Code: Select all

   [Seat:*]
A  greeter-session=lightdm-greeter
A  greeter-hide-users=true
A  session-wrapper=/etc/X11/Xsession
B  user-session=dwm

Sources:
A  /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/01_debian.conf
B  /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
Output of uname -a:

Code: Select all

Linux rpia 4.14.52-v7+ #1123 SMP Wed Jun 27 17:35:49 BST 2018 armv7l GNU/Linux
Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks-
Lajos

OK, I figured it out.

The issue was /usr/bin/x-session-manager, which was linked to /usr/bin/startlxde-pi.

I'm not sure why this file overrides lightdm.conf, or where this file is set to execute, or why, but I replaced it with a file that has exec dwm in it, and now I have dwm.
