Hope I put this in the right place.
So I just got my Pi (model B) and have successfully configured a home server to back up three computers and provide NAS. This is my first experience with Linux and configuring a network beyond setting up wifi. I also plan to get a 4TB drive for redundancy and set up a rsync cron for the local backup after my weekly scheduled reboot. So all in all I have the Pi itself, an external HDD, and a powered usb hub receiving power.
My dilemma is what kind of battery backup to use. I'd really like to avoid a standard sized UPS. Even if the UPiS could handle powering the Pi and the usb hub, which has three 2.5" HDDs plugged in, that still leaves the 4TB (most likely a WD My Book).
The end product of what I'm looking for is something to power the Pi and four attached HDDs for a short while. Possibly trigger a sudo poweroff after ~5 minutes on battery backup.
I have basic soldering/electronic skills and could make my own power cord adapters if needed. Making my own board is way over my head for the time being...
So to make a short question long, can I provide the necessary power with a UPis? My guess would be no, so any suggestions or directions on where to look would be much appreciated!
