Buying Pi 2 - few questions

Wed Feb 11, 2015 11:38 pm

Hello :)

My name is Mike. I am 17. I am intrested in buying Pi 2. Could You please answer my few questions?
Is official Pi camera module better to use than usual USB camera?
If I have Pi 2 (and cables, breadboard), will I able to handle ultrasonic range sensor and two motors? I am going to build object avoidance robot.

Greets :)

Hi,
camera - yes of course.
Ultra-sonics and motors - yes, but you will need the additional hardware to drive the motors. Search the forum as there are plenty of examples on what you want to do.

Your USB 2.0 ports may well be busy doing network, keyboard, mouse and any other duties (even if you use wired Ethernet it still uses the USB system).
The Raspberry Pi camera module attaches to Raspberry Pi, by way of a 15 Pin Ribbon Cable, to the dedicated 15-pin MIPI Camera Serial Interface (CSI), which was designed especially for interfacing to cameras. The CSI bus is capable of extremely high data rates, and it exclusively carries pixel data to the BCM2835 processor.

Support and API for it are very good too.
