I have no idea about your Cannon printer but I did spend a whole working day finding out how to get a new Cannon office printer to work with Cups under Debian.

A coworker spent a whole day trying to get it to work under Windows and gave up!

Never, never will I buy a Cannon printer.

Sorry that is not very helpful.

I can compile the ppd drivers and get it working on Ubuntu with x86 architecture but not arm(raspberry pi)

Have you installed Gutenprint, the printer is listed as experimental on their website

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install printer-driver-gutenprint
Installing Gutenprint should then list additional drivers for your printer in CUPS, it is worth a try..

This won't help directly with the Canon printer setup, but I wasted 2 hours yesterday trying to get my HP All-In-One Photosmart printer set up in Raspbian. The cups web page setup screen has an awful interface, forcing me to scroll one at a time through hundreds of model names many of which were repeated many times with identical names. I had to get through Deskjet, Laserject, Paintejet etc, eventually getting to a close match for mine, and then failing to detect a printer. (Used HPLip which uses CUPs).

Afterwards I tried with the Linaro image and it installed first time.

One of the frustrations of Linux. Worth it though.

Might one of these work?

(It's Canon Australia, but the URL is horrendous!)

Re install Canon printers. Should not be too difficult to get some models to install on Debian, Mint or Ubuntu - they even work over mobile phones, see;-

https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic. ... 1&t=247471

This will not help with the R Pi & ARM until Canon release ARM based drivers.

They might already exist in Japan but I have not found them yet.

You have to go through WiFi for the Mobile.

Hope this might help someone, as the link helped me.

Any reason for Necroing an out of date thread with unrelated information ?

The Canon MG6300 is supported by Gutenprint and now in 2019 we have Raspbian Stretch Operating System and Gutenprint version 5.2.11 in the repositories.

Amazing the pace of development !!!!!
