Since when can the Raspberry Pi run Google Cardboard? I thought that was an Android app and the Pi can't ever run Android.

I need a screen that fits in in the cardboard glasses not run the software etc. and is connected by one cable(hdmi?) on one of the short sides and not the back or long sides of the screen.

Hello! I am doing the exact same thing! I was able to find this on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005CFLMNC/
It is meant to be used as a car backup monitor, but if you hook it up to the RCA video output (you need a special cable to connect a raspberry Pi b+ or similar) to the input and do some cable splicing for power, you can use it. If you hook up a 5v rechargeable USB power bank via spliced USB cable to spliced inut power cable you can use it portably too! I just ordered one. I an still looking for software though. Please tell me if you find any!

You should also tell us what physical size the screen should have, the aspect-ratio, and minimum resolution.

Using analog input (composite) is not something I would recommend in a VR situation, it will probably be quite fuzzy.
I finding a suitable screen with HDMI might also be tough.
