Weird: If you take a photo of Raspberry Pi 2 it crashes!!

Sun Feb 08, 2015 9:32 am

"Early customers of the Raspberry Pi 2 have been testing it out - and they've found a pretty strange problem with it.
It turns out that if you try and take a photo of the Raspberry Pi 2 using a certain type of camera, it crashes and turns off.

What's going on here is pretty weird. Any cameras with a Xenon flash trigger a reaction in a chip on the Raspberry Pi. One of the chips on the exposed computer's circuit board seems to be sensitive to light and poorly shielded, so when the camera's flash triggers, it causes the entire device to crash."

Clueless press jump on a "non-problem" and blow it out of all proportion....

We've come full circle

First found here on this forum
news males it on twitter, youtube , news sites
Reported back on here

Took 12 hrs :)

At least they mention the simple fix of covering a single component (u16),
a case probably prevents it too

Does Raspberry Pi 2 crashes, freeze or turns off in bright Sun? From what I have read till now a Xenon Flash and Laser Pointer induces glitches causing the board to malfunction. Normally the strong light of the Sun should do the same.

You mean that a Pi wouldn't remain stable through the EMP caused by a nuclear explosion?

Surely Foundation have tested this? Along with resistance to custard pie and nerf gun assault?

The IR light emitted by a Remote Control for TV should also be tried to see if it has any effect on Raspberry Pi 2.

It should be also checked if the board is sensitive to Arc Welding.

Quite important, test Raspberry Pi in the street to see if it is sensitive to Xenon and other kinds of headlamps.

Shining my TV remote directly at U16 had precisely zero effect. So that's a non-issue.
