Anyway, I think this is amazing news for many reasons. First, hobbyists are getting more for the same price, which is always good news. Second, this gives a really affordable computer to those who can't afford a "traditional" system. Combine "6x performance" with Wayland/Weston and the ( WIP) Epiphany and this is, IMHO, a good option as a desktop computer.

The articles states software will be compatible... I have some apps that use ASM... I wonder if that will need changes.

I think this will be a good time to buy 2nd hanb b+s... ;)
I'm not sure, but I believe it means it can run recent versions of chromium. Wouldn't that help with the netflix situation?
Chromium for ARM is no longer developed ;)
I believe that is because it doesn't build/work on ARMv6 anymore.

Not really... I don't need 4 cores or 1gig of ram to conttol relays or lights. Plus the size of the A+ makes it morr appropriate for projects where size actually matters.

Rubbish! The original 256mb rev 1 model B still does what it was sold to do, as do subsequent models. Did the model B become unusable when the B+ came out?

I don't think it does. I have a 256MB original Pi doing a job that it has been doing for a very long time and it continued to do that job when 512MB appeared, and continued to do that job when B+ appeared, and it will continue to do that job for the foreseeable.

Edit: Oops, Texy and I were posting the same thing at the same time, but Texy was quicker.

I posted previously the supported Pi2 overclock is 1100Mhz, it's actually 1000Mhz.

Any US retailer selling it? Can't find it on any of the usual sites yet.

Edit: Just checked Adafruit's site and they have already added it (although as Out of stock) , but at almost 45$...

Yeah, saw that....
Please note: The new processor on the Pi 2 means that you will need to create a new SD card with your operating system (Raspbian, Arch, XBMC, NooBs, etc) because you cannot plug in cards from a Pi 1 into a Pi 2. Also, any precompiled software will not work at full speed (although supposedly the processor will be able to run it). Still, you'll want to have it recompiled for the new processor! For many people, this isn't a big deal, but if you have a pre-created Pi 1 Model A+B+ card image, just be aware it won't work!

I've just paid a shade under £23 + VAT for one. So, at current exchange you should be looking at around $35 plus local taxes I guess.

If this is real, and it seems to be, then it's superb news and then thanks to Mr. Eben Upton and to the entire R-Pi Foundation.

Cool - From the blog:

"Now that we’re using an ARMv7 core, we can also run Ubuntu: a Snappy Ubuntu Core image is available now and a package for NOOBS will be available in the next couple of weeks."

I placed an order through Element14/newark
All Items Total: $35.00
Basic Shipping: $8.66
Handling Charge: $0.00
Tax: $3.24
Total: $46.90

"For the last six months we’ve been working closely with Microsoft to bring the forthcoming Windows 10 to Raspberry Pi 2. Microsoft will have much more to share over the coming months. The Raspberry Pi 2-compatible version of Windows 10 will be available free of charge to makers."

I had to read that twice.

I think all of this news helps explain why work on the some of the projects (desktop, browser) hasn't progressed very far in a while.

I wonder if they've fixed the USB controller in this silicon so it doesn't need all that FIQ fun.
