Raspberry Pi 2

Mon Feb 02, 2015 2:18 am

I've read the sticky thread at the top of the forum. However, the Raspberry Pi 2 is making some press today:

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/02/02 ... i_model_2/

In fact, according to The Register, it is released today. But raspberrypi.org makes no reference to it, that I can see.

Is there truth in the story? A quad-core, 900MHz, 1GB RAM rpi?

Looks to be, looks like the register broke press embargo 9 hours early according to some on Reddit. http://www.reddit.com/r/raspberry_pi/co ... ow_with_a/

All I can say is,

Now to find someone selling them, and also to await an A2 (there's always something...).

I was planning to upgrade my con reg system to use the Model B+ for the data entry stations, but the Pi 2 is the obvious way to go.

Remember, the Register is on UK time, so I think they broke it 4 hours ahead of schedule.

I've already tweeted to Adafruit about carrying them!

If you're still in the Bay Area and like table top games (e.g. D&D), come on down to DunDraCon over President's Day Weekend.

Michael Jackson enthusiast.
I got the PI model B, B+ and PI 2 model B.
When will I get the A? I don't know.

On the bottom?

Good question, actually, since there are Broadcom markings on large package on the board, meaning that it isn't PoP, as it is for the other models.

SpazzTechTom appears to have the only link I can find of someone selling the thing - all the other Australian resellers are still touting the Model B+ (one of them at about a 33% discount, for two days only - cheeky!)

I feel like the only additional thing I'd like is a gigabit ethernet port (or two). Maybe the Raspberry Pi 2 Model B+...

On the other hand, I don't see a need for GbE, but I'd sure like a native SATA connector...or later development. However, for my uses, the Pi2 has everything it needs.

Agreed, either SATA or USB3 would make these an almost serious desktop replacement.

I think it would take a bit more than *that* to be a "serious desktop replacement". To do so I'd want a quad-core A-57, and at least 2 SATA ports. But the Pi2 should be pretty good for a fair amount of stuff and pretty wonderful for some...including educational uses.

*And* as noted by another poster...two years earlier than expected, plus the same price as a B/B+. Keeping the price the same is going to strain quite a few other boards that have been proclaimed as "Pi killers" or similar rhetoric.
