PWNPI Help

Thu Jan 15, 2015 12:52 am

hello everyone I am new to this forum but not new to the raspberry pi as I have had my model B+ for some time now so I am not a complete novice. I used to run kali but it was too slow and ram intensive so I decided to download PWNPI which is lighter and faster. After fiddling with the code (found a thread on this forum of much help for starting the pi with PWNPI) I got it too start. Now I need help with what to do after the screen itself is the regular PWNPI background (after launching the GUI) but my mouse is not working and there is no way for me to launch a terminal. I need help with the terminal and GUI and then I can figure out how to get my mouse to work from there. THANKS!

(Update: I think I have found the problem i just have no idea how to fix it. The problem is that my mouse and keyboard stop working after I startx)

If USB & ethernet are not working then the firmware in /boot is too old for the hardware.

You'll need to replace the following files:

bootcode.bin
start_cd.elf
start.elf
start_x.elf
fixup_cd.dat
fixup.dat
fixup_x.dat

with modern versions from http://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware

You may need to replace kernel.img and /lib/modules/3.12.36+ as well.
Note: Any requirement to use a crystal ball or mind reading will result in me ignoring your question.

thanks for the response! replacing some files from that git repository was how I managed to get the pi to start with PWNPI in the first place so I don't know if I need to replace them all or what

Hello,

I am having this exact same problem too (Mouse/keyboard not working after startx).
Did you ever find a solution to it?

Thanks,

Dan.

I have an upgraded version running on a Pi2B without any problems.

It's called thinking. Why don't you try it sometime?

I am late to the party, but i have the same issue.
Got Pwnpi to boot with this tweaked image (PwnPi 3.0, FruitWifi 2.1.2 for B+ en pi2):
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Byuzy8 ... RGSE0/view

Boots after replacing the firmware files with the ones from:
https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware

Super happy after booting.
Then i did startx....
Openbox started with conky running but mouse and keyboard are not responding. Numlock led , caps lock led also not going on when pushing the buttons. Reconnecting mouse and keyboard has no effect.
System is not frozen (i think) because conky keeps updating the info on the screen.

Any advice on how to get mouse and keyboard working in Pwnpi 3 in OpenBox?

So i fixed it myself.

What i did to get the keyboard and mouse working in Openbox.

After Pwnpi starts run:
sudo apt-get install rpi-update
Then run: rpi-update
Then sudo shutdown -r now
After reboot startx and enjoy your warm Pwnpi.

Remember to download this img. Its updated a bit compared to the last official img.
