Connecting Raspberry Pi to computer/tablet

Fri Jan 09, 2015 3:52 pm

I read that you can connect the raspberry pi to a laptop with putty, and use your laptops screen, keyboard, mouse with the pi. I tried the procedure with model b+, but it said connection refused. How can I correct this.
I followed the instructions from http://pihw.wordpress.com/guides/direct ... onnection/

Other than that, how can i connect my raspberry pi to my android phone/tablet? I have a wifi router but no wifi dongle for the pi. Also I currently don't have a display for the pi, neither have set up the os first settings, so please tell me a way through which i can setup my os without a display, and connect it to my laptop or tablet with ssh, or whatever way possible. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Easiest is to install Raspbian Wheezy Standalone ( without using NOOBS installer ) as SSH is active by default

http://www.raspberrypi.org/documentatio ... /README.md

Connect the RPi via Ethernet Cable to the Router, then it will be a device on your home network
Rather than negativity think outside the box !
RPi 4B 4GB (SSD Boot)..
Asus ChromeBox 3 Celeron is my other computer...

The RPi will not show up as a device on other computers unless you configure a shared drive or something.
You need to look in the device list on your router and find the IP address given to the RPi.
Then use that to configure Putty to connect (SSH) from the PC to the RPi.

In most routers you can configure to reserve an IP address linked to the MAC address of the RPi. Then the router will always give the same IP address to the RPi. If not you may have to look up the IP address each time.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated RPiOS Buster w/ Desktop OS.

Here is some more detail from my web site:

How to use Putty to remote access via SSH:
http://home.budget.net/~klricks/Comp/RPi/SSH.html

IP reservations:
http://home.budget.net/~klricks/Comp/RPi/DHCP.html

If you don't understand these basic issues then you will probably need to find someone at your location who knows about computers to help you.
