How does wpa_supplicant handle open networks with SSID ?

If I specify a network with an SSID and key_mgmt=NONE, and if I have several open networks, would the PI connect to the one that matches the SSID or just pick one that has no key? I am wanting the pi to only connect to MY open network and no other network.

It'll connect to the one that matches the SSID.

By default it will never connect to any unspecified SSID network, even open unsecured ones unless you add this:

Code: Select all

network={
        key_mgmt=NONE
        priority=-999
}
The low priority just makes sure it connects to any of your known networks in preference

Do I understand it right, that for connecting to open unsecured network I may not specify the network SSID and just have the following code:

Code: Select all

network={
        key_mgmt=NONE
        priority=-999
}
Because from what I have read in wpa_supplicant.conf man pages, the `ssid=` statement is required
