I have a 5 year old grandson, i myself am not that savvy when it come to computers, but for my little grandson, i think he would love this topic. Is it possible for him to be taught in little steps, how to use pi to its fullest and can the guys who have experience use child speak to guide him, your post will also be used to help him learn to read and understand your guidance for himself. as any lessons from you will be directed at him. I hope that this is not to unusual a request, i will be posting his success's as he learns.

where does he start and what would be the first things he needs to buy.

The bare minimum you need is

1. raspberrypi
   micro sdcard >4GB
   micro USB 1A power supply and cord
   A usable computer with a screen/mouse/keyboard/ethernet/sdcard-slot that can be used to put img files on the sdcard and ssh into the raspberrypi

After that one can either pursue strictly software projects or buy/make more hardware.
Your imagination is really the limit there is no way to reach a computers fullest potential.

kids need to be spoon fed and helped out a lot.
the best thing to do is line up a bunch of quick simple goals and then decide how to get there.

1. make the pi read you a book
   time lapse video
   etc

with experience they will be able to be self sufficient.
In my experience that happens somewhere after undergraduate university.

Thanks guys for your replies, this litle guy love to poke around technology. When he was 4 i bought a new sound system and he spent the afternoon with his nose stuck in the middle of the setup, it took hours, but he wouldn't even stop for lunch he loved it that much, so hopefuly he will be just as nosey with raspberry pi. THANK GUYS
