I just posted my first Raspberry Pi based Kickstarter project. It's a serially controlled text to speech device and WAV file player. It would be interesting to see how the market would react to such a do-it-yourself project based on Raspberry Pi.

As you say that "is not good enough for something like ebook reading" for which I use IVONA TTS.
I'd back someone improving an existing FOSS TTS option

Also you can't claim "High quality audio" unless you include a DAC.

Thanks for your feedback. The main purpose of this project was to give someone using a small micro like Arduino or PIC and easy way to generate short voice sentences and sound effects. I chose WAV as the file type since its widely known. This was the best way I could achieve my goal as I'm not a speech synthesis expert.
