How to show off the Pi?

Thu Sep 25, 2014 3:42 pm

At work tomorrow, I need to give my colleagues a mini lesson on the Pi, I work in IT, but most of them have never really used Linux before. So I would like to make it seem interesting, aside from just basic navigation etc. is there anything fairly simple, but impressive I could so to show it off?

There will also be a few non IT staff in the meeting, so it doesn't have to been too technical. I can't do too much with the device, as it will be running as a mini server parsing JSON and controlling a light in the near future, and I only have about 15-20 minutes.

What do I show them?

Install synaptic and then show them all of the free software that's available and how easy it is to install something new.

Could connect some motors and make the pi move around over ssh or something.

Build a prototype of your JSON vs a light (use an LED and a 560ohm resistor).
You could do that as a quicky with webiopi to give you a web server / web browser interface that you can demonstrate.
