I not a perv, this is just a curiosity but if our body emmits infrared radiation and the clothes didn't, if I point the Pi NoIr camera to someone can I see under theyr clothes?

*Seen leaving shop with pockets full of swag, and walks directly up to a copper, saying*:

"Hello officer, I promise you these bulging pockets are NOT stolen and that I haven't just shoplifted from that Tesco over there, thanks"

Stating, off the cuff that you are not something in a kinda pre-emptative, defensive tone, makes me immediately question your reason for having done so.

On the first count, LOL!

On the final count, you couldn't be less covert if you'd tried to be

Could be fun to redo this film with a PI Noir, but I do not believe it would work:

Safe For Kids and Work Night Vision demo

Bringing a bit of controversy to the PI would make some publicity

I have a noir camera but do not count on me. I am not a new york politician ;)

I'm sure there's better ways for the Pi to get publicity without signing its' own commercial death warrant.

Not all publicity is good. :)

IIRC the Pi NoIR only sees "near" infrared and isn't capable of seeing the infra-red emitted by body heat. There was an early demo where you actually need something as hot as a soldering-iron tip before you see any "heat glow" in infra-red using the Pi NoIR.

Sorry perverts

Edit: Unlike the infamous night-vision camera, it's not "designed" to be an infrared camera, it just happens to be capable of seeing a bit of infra-red if the filter is removed.

Ah, now I know why OP wants to do this - they want to see if the unidentified what-they-think-are-badgers-wearing-tee-shirts-and-balaclavas-but-they-might-be-mistaken are real, or a figment...

This won't let you see through people's clothes.
I've never tried but I highly doubt it.
Simple. Body heat is very low frequency infrared light.
Even if you were to see infrared light it would be blobs. Not the details you see in holyweird.
Sorry about your one-eyed trouser snake.

As has been mentioned in order to see body heat, you need a sensor capable of seeing in the far infrared range. With the wide availability of cameras capable of seeing in the near infrared this misconception about infrared equaling heat is slowly subsiding. In order for the Pi NoIr camera to see heat the item needs to be almost hot enough to be glowing "red hot". Just as things don't have to be red hot to appear red, things don't have to be "infrared hot" to be reflect infrared light.

An yes, it is possible to see under (some) clothes with the Pi NoIr. The material the clothing is made from would need to be transparent to near IR. I doubt IR transparent clothing is very common. Any material transparent to IR is probably pretty shear to begin with and would probably appear translucent to the naked eye (that wasn't on purpose).
