Analogue audio on B+

Mon Jul 21, 2014 1:26 am

Hello. I switched on my new Model B+ for the first time tonight and with an external amplified speaker plugged into the analogue audio jack I get a loud buzzing. I presume this is because of the composite audio now being fed out of this socket as well.

Is there a setting in config.txt I can use to suppress this? This in my opinion is a retrograde step. I don't need video because like a lot of folks I can't see. And the buzzing of the composite video is buggering up my sound.

Try a cable with a 4 ring 3.5mm plug (Video + audio).
Using a 3 ring (audio only) cable is supposed to harmlessly short the video to ground but I would try the 4 ring anyway.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated RPiOS Buster w/ Desktop OS.

Can you tell me *exactly* what things are plugged in to the Pi?. The composite shouldn't cause an issue. It could be a bad connector or some kind of ground loop for instance. Can you give some more detail?
