USB Webcam problem

Hi,

I recently got a 1.3MP (1280x1024) USB webcam (Trust Spotlight Webcam Pro), by the way the fun about it is that it is not recongnized by Windows XP, Vista nor Seven 64, only Windows 8 but on RasPi it worked right out of the box ;-)

MJPG-streamer works fine, so the camera itself is OK.

My problem is that whenever I use VLC, Motion or fswebcam, the picture is displayed like a randomized puzzle (random position of puzzle pieces, random size of pieces, can be 2 pieces or more) 9 pictures over 10.

Question is : why MJPG-streamer work like a charm and not the other tools ? what is the common point between non working tools and the difference with MJPG-streamer ? do MJPG-streamer use a different way to retrieve camera pictures ?

As I want to crop the picture (only the centered zone is of interest) I'd like to crop the video this is would like to use VLC (may be motion can do it too ?) so I can keep bandwidth not streaming the full picture size.

regards.

RasPi firmware 3.12.22
Power supply 1.5A
USB Nano Netgear Wifi WMA1000N
USB Webcam Trust Spotlight webcam Pro

Is your webcam connected to the Pi directly or to external USB hub??

Directly to RasPi that is powered with a 1.5A power supply.

My RasPi is recent so no 150mA USB output limitation

Camera work 100% with mjpg-streamer so I don't think problem is because of any power loss.

edit : also tried with Webcam connected to 2A powered USB HUB, just to be 100% sure.
