IBM Liberty Profile

Sat Jun 09, 2012 10:09 pm

If anyone is interested in setting up the IBM Liberty Profile (a lightweight application server), as used on the post here http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/1348, you can install this as follows:

Grab the zip file from the downloads page at https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/myde ... me?lang=en. Use the "Just want the Liberty Profile" section.

Once unzipped on your Pi (I used the Debian image from the Pi Download pages), you need Java. I used Oracle's Java SE for Embedded 6 (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/ ... index.html) - the headless ARM6/7 version, downloaded it and unzipped/untar'ed and then set my JAVA_HOME environment variable to point to where I had expanded the JRE.

I created a new application server profile using the Liberty Profile commands in wlp/bin - "./server create <servername>". Start it using "./server start <servername>" (and shut it down using "./server stop <servername>"). <servername> can be anything you want to call the server - I used "rpi".

Now you should be able to deploy web apps, etc on to the Liberty Profile - more instructions on this on the Liberty Profile web site.

This is commercially-licensed software from IBM (as is the JRE from Oracle) and will require registration before you can download.

Glad the instructions helped. I have not been able to try out deploying apps yet - been somewhat distracted by the day job recently.

Are you looking for instructions, or just want to know it works?

Just a quick note that Oracle's JRE doesn't run on the latest Wheezy Raspbian image http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 66&t=11671
