fvdw-sl NAS firmware now available for raspberry 1b and 2

Sun Jun 15, 2014 9:41 pm

Hi community the last years me and my friend developed a NAS firmware that runs on lacie devices.
Recently we tested if it could run as well on the raspberry b.
The test have been succesfull and there is now a first version of this firmware availble for the raspberry b model
Basically the firmware transforms your raspberry in a full blown NAS with lot..lots of features.

The firmware has a web interface and has a lot of features like unlimited number of users and shared folder, it comes with samba FTP (also secured), NFS files servers, ssh server, vpn server, several mediaservers like twonkymedia, mediatomb, minidlna, logitech media server, webtools like btsync, web explorer, webDav, downloaders like transmission, nzbget, MLdonkey, wget, torrentflux, backup via rsync and even a rsync servers, a task scheduler and more...and it is free.

If you are interested you can check it out on http://plugout.net

It is available as disk image that you need to write to the SD card. As the SD card has limited capacity and is not suitable for lots of IO operations you can use USB disk to stored your data and define shared folders.

Even for people not so experienced in Linux it is easy to use and install. Just write the provided disk image to an SD card with minimum capacity of 4 GB put it in your raspberry and off you go

I knew about your project yesterday. And I have installed in my Pi today and it´s working perfectly.

It´s really awesome. One complete NAS in my Pi.

My Raspi is a Rev B with 256 MB, and web interfaces works fast.

I have tested:
- Sharing by SAMBA my usb disk (500 GB EXT4). OK
- Sharing by FTP my usb disk (500 GB EXT4). OK
- Manage users with Total Access one and Read Only one.

I have a question. Is it possible to download from premium servers like Uploaded or Mega? I only see torrent options. I use PyLoad for this use in my Pi.

EDIT: What port I have to open to access web interfaces from internet?

I don't know Pyload myself but it seems to be a Pyhton application (correct).
Pyhton can be installed as addon to the firmware, see download section on plugout (sub forum addons).
Pyload isn't integrated in the webinterface

About access from internet. This depends form your LAN setup.
I assume the raspberry is behind a router. In that case you need to use port forwarding in your router to forward ports on internet side of your router to the raspberry. In principle you can forward any port you like but be aware of opening security holes. The webinterface of the fvdw-sl firmware can run in normal http mode port and secure mode https. It uses the standard ports for that

For the other server you can see in the webinterface which ports are used.

Excellent nas software, just works straight off when I installed it on a pi model B, not only that , but an old LaCie EDMini v2 I had years ago has been revitalised by installing a version made for it.

this can be because we got annoyed by many spammers using addresses like gmail
Send an e-mail to the admin of plugout with the e-mail you want to use and we can make an exception

sorry for this inconvienience

Thanks for the quick response. I created an account by the alias trojjanhorse but I do not permission to open any threads aside from the general announcements. I can see more threads when I log out. This is the message I get when I attempt to enter the download thread when logged in via the URL.

Can someone please tell me how to get registered on the plugout forum. I tried a gmail address which I prefer and it failed as noted above. So then I tried a Comcast address which it said was not real. Then I looked for a way to mail admin as mentioned above. then I registered here in hopes to contact fvdw but still no means to do so.

Whom may I email to join?

I really would like to give this a whirl but i can't register with any of the email addresses i have. Tried registering with the same username as this one. I've already emailed the admin but since it is obviously blacklisted i'm not sure it will get through.

it is added as exception, all *.co.uk are black listed, you don't want to know how frustrating it is to keep the forum free from spammers and their posts
