4-Digit Display on TM1637

Sun Jun 15, 2014 5:34 pm

Hello all,

Did anybody connect this module to raspberry? It has VCC-Ground-CLK-DIO outputs. For Arduino libraries TimerOne and DigitalTube (this is especially for TM1637) are used - so is there a ready solution for Raspberry?

Thanks!

Hello gagorski,

I've purchased TM1637 display after reading this Russsian article which states "this is a usual I2C" and gives links to library for Arduino and PDF in Chinese. PDF in English you can try here. So if you have time and knowledge to recompile it for RPi using all these - it will be great.

I still did not do it and gonna use this display from AdaFruit. It costs $10 - but it has 16 levels of brightness and a ready-to-use library. While TM1637 costs $2.31 on eBay, does not seem to allow brightness control (does it?) and needs unestimated time for library development. Whether it costs extra $7.70 - up to you.

This device has no DEVICE ADDRESS. The device is not I2C!
please see this german forum, there is even a python lib for this display for gpio bitbanging!

That was my interpretation of the (untranslated) datasheets. I've also come across this Arduino blog:
http://blog.3d-logic.com/2015/01/21/ard ... t-display/
and, being a 'C' programmer, hope to adapt that code to bit-banged code for the Pi to drive the CATALEX TM1637-based displays shown here:
http://www.cpmspectrepi.webspace.virgin ... dules.html
(Currently I'm working on code for the other, 74HC595-based SPI (QIFEI) display also shown in the above page and related code for this "recycled" ex-DTV display and 2 x 74HC595-based interface board**:
http://www.cpmspectrepi.webspace.virgin ... splay.html )
I will re-post when I've made progress.
Trev.
** that webpage is awaiting an update in the next day or so. has now been updated.
Still running Raspbian Jessie on some older Pi's (an A, B1, B2, B+, P2B, 3xP0, P0W) but Stretch on my 2xP3A+, P3B+, P3B, B+, A+ and a B2. See: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_pi/raspiidx.htm

This is just odd... I also bought the "TM1637" segment display and I'm trying to make use of it. Prior the Adafruit's 0.56" 7Segment was sort of easy to grasp and the python was east top jump into.. but this one...

I found this one easy to use, it works with any Pi, not just the Zero.

I am sure the extra digits can be used for something!
It has memory and brightness control.

I got a cheap 4-digit display on TM1637 to work well on a Raspberry Pi as a simple clock using wiringPi and basing it off the code and instructions here:
http://learn.linksprite.com/raspberry-p ... spberrypi/

Did a few modifications to the example test code so it would actually display the current time, in the right format, not at a blinding brightness, and only update every minute (not a fan of blinking colons here). Here's my modified version:

I also bought some of those inexpensive displays (68 cents each) and wrote my own library to make it easier to control them. I have an Arduino and Linux version:
