I would like to check power consumption of the raspberry pi in lxterminal to check if my rechargeable battery pack can supply enough power to run the rpi.

To check power consumption of your setup (once) or to monitor it in real time (all the time) ?

I would like to check it multiple times but not all the time. I would like to check it using lxterminal on the raspberry pi.

I guess you probably need an application ?
It would read data from the board which monitors/measures the battery state. What type of battery do you use ?

anyone tried running a Pi of a Canon DLSR Camera battery

I've got a stack of LP-E8's rated at 7.2V / 1360mAh 9.7Wh and thought these would make a good power source

use a usb lipo device - so it provides 5V and not 7.2V+ whcih will kill things unless you build a circuit with a VR etc...
