Java Scala report.

Tue Jun 05, 2012 12:16 pm

I am using Oracle Embedded Java 1.6.

Java HelloWorld takes 4MB RAM.
Scala HelloWorld takes 6MB RAM.

Akka actors (Scala) "hello world" takes ~30MB RAM.

Written in Java simple REST server Jetty+Jersey+Jackson+ApacheDerby takes 33MB RAM.

Play 2.0 (Scala+Akka) simple REST "hello world" takses ~35MB RAM.

Neo4J (java graph database) takes ~70MB RAM.

Ok, to not to spam R-Pi forum I am moving to my blog http://intellihome.blogspot.com/ where I will publish more R-Pi+Java information.

Thank you:),
Arthur.

Sounds great!

Which Scala version are you using?

Is there a HOWTO or a list of packages I need to install to get Scala?

Any chance that you can open the http://intellihome.blogspot.com/ so other people can see your progress? Right now it looks like it's locked so that we can't read it.

Thanks in advance!

@kermitas: The link is closed to us. Would you please share your experiences on how you brought akka to the pi?

I'm very sorry gus for my late response.

I closed blog. I found that using Scala, Akka, Play 2.0 or Neo4J is possible on RPi but it is totally inefficient (not enough RAM, not enough power).

But I successfully wrote few programs in pure Java (simple rest servers using Jetty + Jackson + Jersey).

This week I should start testing MK808 (dual core ARM Cortex-A9, 1GB DDR3 RAM, 8GB internal flash, build in two antennas WiFi b/g/n, now it costs~$45 http://www.aliexpress.com/item/MK808-An ... 25797.html) .
In future I'm thinking about someting like GK802 (quad core ARM Cortex-A9 , now it costs ~$98, http://www.aliexpress.com/item/1day-sen ... 86608.html).

I have just received mine.

2012-12-18 I have placed oreder
2012-12-24 seller send my package
2013-01-07 MK808 in my hand

Total cost: ~$48.
It works very well, no problem with WiFi. Also android shows Bluetooth icon, I can do scanning - so maybe I'm lucky to get BT for free as I read that others get.

Please see my post at "USB redux" thread http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 66#p253166 .

In next days I will try to install PicUntu and see how JDK8 EA, Java/Scala/Akka/Play2.0 works. I also wonder how full hd usb webcams behave.
