Thinking about buying a raspberry pi...is it for me?

Fri Apr 11, 2014 3:50 am

Right now I have two hard drives connected to my router.
I'm currently using a WDTV to stream media from the routers hard drives to my TV.

Would this do the same? Would be 720P to 1080P MKV videos.

My main concern would be the network rate - 150mbps or so probably isn't enough for much when it comes to video. If your current setup works, I see little reason to change it.

You want to serve from the RPi or run it as a XBMC client?

Where does this 150 mb/sec figure come from? Also assuming that is a reliable figure its still 18.75 MB/sec.

EDIT: I guess you are referring to a USB HDD sharing bandwidth of the USB ethernet adapter. In which case I agree it wouldn't make a good server for 1080p content.
