Pyplate CMS is available for beta testing

Sun Mar 30, 2014 10:34 am

I've been developing a Python Content Management System for over a year. I use it to power my site at raspberryWebserver.com, and I've developed it to a point where it's ready for beta testing.

You can read about it at http://www.pyplate.com. Pyplate is much more compact than Wordpress, so it runs quite a bit faster. I've tested Pyplate with Apache on Raspbian, and on Ubuntu on a PC. Currently only Apache is supported. I will test Pyplate with Nginx within the next month.

For this stage of beta testing I need to make sure the site is accessible, and that the installation process works. I also need to make sure that the forum (http://www.pyplate.com/forum/index.php) works properly.

If you'd like to try out Pyplate, you can see how to install it here: http://www.pyplate.com/install-pyplate

Note that I recently changed the DNS settings, and it may take another 24 hours for everyone to be able to access it. I think most people will be able to access the site by now.

I've updated the beta version of Pyplate CMS. I fixed a couple of bugs in the installation process, so it should work a little more smoothly.

I've also added support for Nginx. There's a different installation script for installing Pyplate with Nginx. See http://www.pyplate.com/install-pyplate for more information.

I'm still looking for feedback from beta testers, so feel free to have a go at building a site with Pyplate.

I've updated the beta version of Pyplate. I've improved the way backups are managed in the admin area. There are now buttons to delete, restore and download different backups. I've also added a page with fine grain cache control that makes it easier to control the cache for specific parts of a site. There's now a page in the admin area where you can add HTML code for sharing buttons and comments.

There was a bug in the .htaccess file. I've rewritten this file, so page caching works much better in Apache now.

I've also added two new themes - you can see screenshots here: http://www.pyplate.com/main.html. The install instructions are still available at http://www.pyplate.com/install-pyplate.

I've released another version of Pyplate. Posts can now be saved in drafts and previewed before being published. I've added a page to the admin area where the database can be exported or imported from XML files. There are now 7 themes included with Pyplate - here are two of them:

Pyplate is still in beta testing, so let me know if you've got any questions about it.

There's a new version of Pyplate available on my site at http://www.pyplate.com/install-pyplate. This version is much faster because it uses the WSGI server interface specification instead of CGI.

Pyplate still works with Apache and Nginx. There's also a simple Python web server which is very easy to set up.

There are several security enhancements in this version of Pyplate.
