TEXET keyboard from Wilkinsons -- do not buy

Sat Jun 02, 2012 5:36 pm

My cheap ASDA keyboard worked great, except it was broken. So I bought a cheap TEXET keyboard from Wilkinsons.

It causes a Kernel panic every time. Looking closer the contacts on the USB plug are at an odd separation. Too cheap I think. It goes back on Wednesday.

Presumably this is a wired TEXET keyboard? I brought the wireless TEXET mouse / keyboard combo from Wiko at £15 and to me it's a great buy... for messing around with the Pi, at any rate.

Yes, the wired one for £5.30. Glad the wireless one works OK.

That's three times the current they could except to pull from a powered hub! Shirley you can't be serious!
I doubt that's what caused the panic, the fuse would have blown instantly, but it's another mark against it.

Damn it. Add the PC World/Currys Essentials keyboards to the list.
Back to Currys tomorrow. Back to Wilkinsons on Wednesday.
The Satzuma.com Roll-Up keyboard does the same. At least that was a Christmas present.

And I've tried them on a powered hub now. It is not power.

I'm off to Tesco; at least there are reports that theirs works.

Add the gembird to the list of incompatable keyboards bought a cheap one for 7 pounds. Just gave a error when booting the pi. borrowed a more expensive dell keyboard and that works fine

I've also tried a (wired) Tesco keyboard brought a couple of years ago. It works fine with the Pi, although travel on it was lousy - hence why I jumped at the chance to replace it.

In fact, just to add that my wireless keyboard from Wilko's was a 'Trust' branded, not TEXET.

Try it first. There was a firmware mod a week or so back that fixed the problem for some keyboards.
